I don’t think I can get anything numbered in that range from the big three(prizm, optic, select)
I was thinking a non numbered color from one of the top brands is better than a numbered card from a lowered tiered brand? Am I wrong in that thinking? Last edited by Stringmusic; 07-28-2021 at 02:30 PM. |

Hi, I am returning to the Hobby after a 30 year break
I am a huge Bills (30 years) and Josh Allen fan and my wife (who is not a football fan at all) got me a Josh Allen Optic Rookie card for my birthday. It might be the best present i have ever received from a wife who is not keen Ball. I am hooked now and looking to Grow my JA collection - i now have the 2018 Donruss and Optic Rookies and some other fun low end stuff. Looking on Ebay is a bit overwhelming with all the rookie options. I have a budget of about $2500 and looking for some advice on great cards in that range, (hopefully 1-3 cards) - I am not looking to sell. i am looking to hold and show off to my friends 15 years from now after josh has a mit full of rings. Sorry if this is not the right place to ask this questions. Autos seem a bit out of my price range. What are the best more recognizable Rookie cards in this range? What would you do with this budget and a keen desire to hold Josh Rookies? Thank you ! |

Welcome back. Lots of ways to go, you could buy the optic Holo PSA10 in the same card you have which is low population. You could get some color Prizm, or you could probably buy a Contenders Auto, just a little lower grade. I guess it depends on if you want to own 1 card or 2,3. Lots of nice Allen out there. Just scroll up a bit and check out some of the crazy cool cards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

PSA 9 or raw Prizm Silver(not the base) RC. They were tough to pull in 2018 and you don't see many of them. The Prizm silver is considered one of the rookie cards to own for ultra modern. Honorable mention to the Select Field Level silver RC and the Select XRC, but those are far more plentiful.

Get a contenders rookie ticket. No question about it. The best rookie card to have that's somewhat affordable right now raw, and has the potential to go through the roof over time. Plus, if you look at the nostalgia of the biggest RC card for guys like Brady and more recent - rookie tickets remain supreme |

Thanks for all the advice and ideas. This sure is fun !
I should have mentioned my budget is CDN so more like $2k USD. How does the Prizm Silver Rookie Auto (psa 9) compare to the Prizm silver rookie a PSA 9 mentioned above? The Silver seems more expensive than a Silver Auto which does not make sense to me. The Auto is a Sticker, is that much of a factor? Thank you ! |

If it were my $2000, and you don't mind PSA 9, I would look at a Select Field Level Silver PSA 9 (~$850), Select Field Level Base PSA 10 (~$1100), Prizm Base PSA 10 ($875), Optic Holo PSA 10 (~$1500+), or maybe even Optic Downtown BGS 9.5 (~$1800). The Select XRC PSA 9 is around $1000. For my money, I'd probably grab the XRC 9 and the Prizm 10. There are so many ways to go, but generally, your three big base sets for silvers/holos and RCs are Prizm, Select, and Optic. Any graded silvers or numbered variations of those cards will endure. If you're into inserts, rookie Downtown (Optic), Kaboom (Absolute), and Color Blast/Stained Glass (Prizm, but not around for JA's rookie year) are the most popular.

In 2016 and 2017 prizm, every rookie was a silver, there were no base. They were seeded 2 per pack. In 2018 they made silvers 1 per box for the entire set. Not only that, they did not include silvers in retail. 1 in 300 hobby boxes over $2000 a piece for Allen with perfect collation. This is a very underrated card. 2018 is easily the most rare year for silvers. It’s not even close. 2019 had 1 per hobby box silvers, but there were a ton in retail and easy to pull.
People don’t understand how rare it is in comparison to say a Mahomes prizm. This is a great card to get, but PSA 9’s have already doubled since they were even in the playoffs. A PSA 10 just sold for 12k I believe. There is an immaculate true RPA /99 up with a decent patch at 2700 OBO. I think that card has a lot of room to move. It is a clean, great looking vertical on card auto RPA and you can probably get the price down to your range. |

If you're going for an auto, I would recommend a raw Contenders rookie ticket auto if you can get one.. Contenders Optic and Donruss Optic will also have some good options in your range.. A quick search and I found this one in your range: https://www.ebay.com/itm/22447576415...4AAOSwIxNg5iD6 Purple stars isn't a hugely popular parallel, but it's still an on card auto, numbered to 50. As far as a Josh Allen silver prizm rc vs. prizm rc auto... the sticker is a big factor in the lower price and also the 2018 silver prizm rc's were very hard to pull. There have been 87 silver prizm's graded by PSA and 270 prizm auto's graded by PSA. You can see the disparity in ebay listings of each as well. And this is the most prizm silvers I've seen listed in months. There are always 10+ prizm autos listed.

Maybe slightly…. But did anyone here think he wouldn’t eventually sign a extension? Almost all franchise QBs do. It’s very rare for a team to let an elite QB go in his prime. Looks like Watson might leave the Texans, and before that…? When the Broncos traded Jay Cutler?

You can call Allen a “running QB” I guess
Baker Mayfield has just five less career wins than Josh Allen. Mayfield has 1,400 more yards than Allen with 8 more touchdowns. They have identical completion percentages.
