Layman's term: Shohei Ohtani has a forearm strain.

The forearm muscles are vital to pitchers. In the best cases, they absorb a significant portion of the force when a pitcher throws. If the forearm isn't working properly, force gets distributed disproportionately to the elbow.

There is a big difference between a Grade 1 and 2 strain. Strain = tear. Grade 1 is a slight tear with minimal issues. Grade 2 is much more significant -- the sort of thing that is concerning and problematic. Grade 3 is a complete tear of the muscle that always requires surgery.

Honestly just happy it's not a second TJ
As an Angels fan, this is devastating. TJ or this injury is the same for me, he ain't pitching either way.

I hope he can pitch like 2018 again

I'm an angel fan too, but this is not devastating. This is possibly one of the better case scenarios.

It isn't structural damage and fixable in 4-6 weeks. I'm relieved and so is Joe Maddon for not losing his job.

Could depend if grade 1 or grade 2

Either is better than TJ. TJ he wouldn't pitch this year or next. Even with a grade 2 strain, he should be able to attempt pitching next year.

Let pitching go this year... have a full camp next year, where he can actually have time to ramp up without a ton of pressure and start the season strong.

In the meantime, hit bombs.

Perhaps it is just time to end the whole pitching aspect of Ohtani...at least for this shortened season. He'll come back and be cleared to throw with around a month left of the season, what's the point?

Injury prone. That's my official diagnosis.

So is Strasburg... Doesn't mean he can't have a productive career.

I have 10 base updates and a bunch of inserts here ready to ship. I don’t collect him and have had these in a box sleeved for a while.

Maddon said Shohei Ohtani will not pitch this season, but that he still sees him as a two-way player. He thinks he’ll benefit from a full, normal spring training."

Does this make Ohtani a full time DH this season?

Yeah, why not? The Angels are desperate for pitching. Bunch of pitchers went down this year already due to truncated spring training. No build up time.

Double for Ohtani as he was coming back from TJ with the short spring and no rehab starts.

I think it's a dumb move, but I can't say I'm surprised that they're being stubborn. They bought a 2-way player.

Ohtani also deserves a say in his future too, and he wants to be a pitcher.
