There is a 2018 Donruss 9.5 auto /17 currently at 10k and a BGS 10 of the same at 14k. Both are probably going to wind up being fake sales. The BGS 10 has a zero feedback bidder at the top which makes me incredibly more suspicious of the other one

Dynasty Patch that I needed just went for $4500 raw....meanwhile a 9.5 is up to $4750 with 3 days to go.

I got two for sub-$900/ea not that long ago...everything going vertical.

Do any of you guys know if his Optic cards sell well? I kind of assumed they were inferior to the Topps and Bowmans, but just wondering if there is some value there.

There may be a little bit of value in his PJ cards but most of it has been soaked up. Now, a couple months ago there were plenty of Shohei PJ deals to be had. His Select & Optic color were selling at roughly 1/3 of Acuna/Soto even fairly recently. But the rising tide has indeed lifted all boats and those PJ cards that have a good aesthetic are now pretty fairly priced, for the most part.

Asides from what has already been mentioned, a high grade Sapphire is also an option. It seems likely to be Ohtani’s most desirable base card.

As ugly as this year's ASG jersey is, I want to own one since it's Ohtani's memorable first selection as an All Star.

I'm sure this has been brought up before but it's worth bringing up again. Another difference between the Ohtani market and the Acuna/Soto/Tatis/Vlad markets is that Ohtani doesn't have a 1stBCA before his RC stuff came out. Usually, there's the 1stBCA markets, which are insane, and then there are the RC markets. Ohtani has both rolled into one.

So the hobby money that would normally be going into 1stBCAs is going into the RC market, and will continue to do so.

Collectors collect and they tend to spend their budget. Collectors will find cards to spend their money on and if the 1stBCA market isn't there then that money will go into the RC market.

Ohtani is an anomaly and shouldn't be compared to the other phenoms we've seen in the last few years.

Can you buy a custom one on the MLB shop and just add his name/number? I've done that in the past. Usually the same price, or 10-20 more....

If it was before the season, I would have seen this post and thought that it was the auto PSA 10 being discussed.
Now I know that it's just the base card fetching this kind of crazy money.

They don't have that option for Angels (yet).
Not sure why the "would be #1 selling" jersey isn't available yet.

Whoever it was that landed that Orange for $7k absolutely robbed someone.

Correct! The only other major star that has a similar comparison is Mookie Betts. Technically Betts 2014 Bowman Chrome bass is a non rookie but all other 2014 releases are RC logos (that in itself sounds stupid. 2014 cards are rookies for Betts).

I just bought the Ohtani/Ichiro US 153 Gold PSA 10 for $300.
I had the rest of the Golds and figured might as well complete the set.
Seems like a good price - only pop 46 and it looks like the last one sold three months ago for $208. His stuff has gone up quite a bit since then...
