ok, lets say there ARE more then 1K people putting sets together.
They are caught up now, why would they want to spend big bucks on scrubs going forward?

i get it, more people COULD want to "join in" on the set at any time in the future, but lets be real here, we are talking about baseball cards

Think of it this way -- let's say you take all the Topps sets from 1952 to now, and throw out all the junk commons, all-stars, record breakers, etc etc and pared each set down to the best 50 cards/players. Now imagine, instead of a Mantle, Aaron, Nolan Ryan, etc every year, there was just one card of each of those guys (maybe a second or third when they switch teams). How collectible do you think a set of those would be worth if there were, on average, less than 10k of each card.

I don't know -- just my way of trying to put this in perspective for the long haul. I think this set is going to become more collectible over time. We may see a dip because the initial run up/hype will/has cooled off. But in the long run, I think this set has the potential to be iconic in the hobby. Assuming they don't ruin it with gimmicks. We all look at the first handful of weeks as being the "early period", but this could go through many phases if it is expected to run for decades.

i totally see what youre saying, but i cant see why someone in 2026 will give a damn about Nick Markakis. Not many folks care about 1952's Hal Rice

More stars less scrubs is the only thing that will keep people engaged enough to go back and buy the thousands of over Printed Matt Olsen’s

You're supposed to start a sentence with a capital letter.

Let’s face it, we can rationalize all we want, but those PRs in the general card community are not screaming “rare”.

I’ll grant you speculators drove prices to crazy highs like they do, but I think there are more than 1,000 set collectors.
1000 is a lot of collectors imo for base cards these days

Maybe there are more. But I think with price jump 1-9

You will lose a ton over first 6 months

1 year 156 cards .. I would be shocked if there are 1000 full sets after a year

In a year, you might be right. But right now, I think there are more.

Of course, this whole thing might not exist in a year if they can't figure out how to not get half their print run sent back every week

Would be kinda neat if Jackie is card #42. Saw someone mention the same idea before.

What would be the point? Jackie already has a card in the original 1953 Topps set....and it happens to be a somewhat iconic one.

Rule #1 should be no HOFers who have a card in the original set....

I truly hope that this is representative of what others will sell for. I know the price will drop as more hit the market but I never expected them to sell for this much.

Nick Markakis is #231 all time in hits. That is an amazing accomplishment. He is 34 years old and could have a chance at 3000 hits. I think that will change the discussion in a few years. Plus possibly lowest PR. You should look up the guys with just a few hundred more hits then him. Mantle, Schmidt, Puckett.

I just looked at the fixed Moncada card again and noticed they forgot to add his position.
