Context is quite important here.

The Lions have, in a matter of 2ish years, built a foundation that will allow for plenty of success moving forward. This is a franchise that has been among the worst in all of sports over the last 30ish years. "Bracing for a loss in the playoffs", as a 12-15 win team, is not some negative thing.

Yes - a playoff loss looks likely. If Philly takes over the top seed, they are likely in trouble (if they aren't already because of all the injuries on defense). Home field advantage throughout is going to be very key for the Lions - not just because of their crowd, but the fact of Goff playing outdoors in January. They've got to hang on to the #1 seed. That looks unlikely, given the Eagles playing in the NFC Least.

Yes, the Eagles have a very easy path to 15-2. Lions have two challenging games and have to make sure they don't trip over the Bears. Now it looks like McNeil and Davis are done for the season. Just an absolutely brutal round of injuries. Not going to be easy.

Bills fan here. The Lions defense wasn’t the only defense short handed. Bills had 3 starters out and by the second half they were playing 2 just off the practice squad. No matter it was a fun game and I hope the Lions-Bills Super Bowl is a reality

Lol WRONG. The defense giving up 500+ yards and 48 points cost them the game.

Looks spot on to me. Lions only have 1 really tough game remaining. They control their own destiny. Everyone else will need help from other teams.

It went from they have a chance to the game being over.

It made no sense from a coaching perspective. They were down by 10. You stop buffalo...you score a touchdown and suddenly it is a 3 point game at home where anything could happen. Instead you hand them the ball on the 5 yard line and let them walk into the endzone.

They also didn’t stop them the entire game. If they’re gonna score anyway, let it be quick lol

Montgomery with a torn MCL. They can’t catch a break.

Why has the Lions fan base went from Super Bowl to we are destined to a first game playoff loss? Can we chill with the one game over reaction. Yes, I am worried about all the mounting defensive injuries. Monty is a big blow as well. We are still 12-2. If they lose 2 out the last three, then dial up the panic meter. They were overdue for a loss and Campbell was due for one of his dumb aggressive decisions to backfire. Now we can reset the underdog chip and win 2 of those last three games. I would be very happy with a 14-3 season. That hopefully is enough for one seed.

Yep McNeil out for year and now Monty. I change my stance. It's over. Better luck next year Detroit.

It's all good they have changed the culture and major pieces are locked in. Cap space is decent next couple years too. Lots of good years ahead for this franchise.

I think there's still a chance of a deep run, but the injuries are adding up.

Dan Campbell onside kick with 12 minutes to go. Keep doing stupid calls that way teams won't have to worry about the Lions to much. His play calling knocked the Lions out last season and will probably do it again this year.

No not Monty! This team is cursed this year with injuries and still 12-2. That’s just nuts.

Looking at the game summary, Buffalo punted once and Detroit punted three times. Detroit also turned the ball over once.

Both teams had over 500 yards. Back to back weeks the Bills D gives up over 40 points.

So we know the Lions can play and win in a shootout. We also know that game was winnable by the Lions but for a few mistakes and a questionable onside kick call. I wouldn't be too deflated as a Lions fan. The Rams had a shootout with the Bills the week prior, and the ball bounced their way. The Bills defense is giving up tons of yardage the last few weeks. Gloat all they want, but those Bills fans have to be a bit concerned about giving up 86 points and 978 yards in two games.

The question is how many playoff-bound teams in the NFC have a defense that can keep Detroit's offense reasonably in check . And how many of those same teams are capable of scoring more points than Detroit, whose defense has been decimated with injury? That's the big question heading into the playoffs for Detroit.

BTW - injuries are the worst part of the game

I've always rooted for Detroit except for when they played my hometown team. I'm in my mid-40s, so growing up I didn't watch many other teams on TV - they just weren't available to watch (at least in my household). It was the Eagles, then Detroit and the Cowboys every Thanksgiving. Couldn't root for the Cowboys obviously, so we'd root for Detroit during the noon game each Thanksgiving. Wishing you all luck (except against one team, should they meet come the playoffs)

The McNeil injury is actually worse. He was the last piece of gum holding the D-Line together.

It's going to be very hard for them, but they're going to have to adapt and focus on outscoring their opponents.

Since my Niners aren't winning anything I'm 100% down with a Bills/Lions SB. Let a winless team grab it.

The McNeil injury feels like the last straw. He's gonna miss most of next season as well.

To me, all these injuries make it even more imperative to go all-in next year. Kerby Joseph, Jamo and Anzalone are on the final year of their deals. St. Brown and Sewell extensions kick in for 2026. It's gonna be the last year where they have all their guys and most of them on low cap numbers.

Also, anyway whining about the onside kick call is a bozo. Detroit has nobody left on defense and couldn't stop Buffalo all day. It was a do-or-die move but really their only chance to steal the game.

It's funny that anytime a Campbell decision doesn't work out, all the bozos pile out of the clown car to laugh but the other ten times his decisions hit, they're quiet.
