I'd like to sum up this whole thread.

Healthy mentally balanced well intentioned people can be friends with someone of any gender whether they are in a committed relationship or not.

People who do not fit into that above group cannot and/or will not.

Acquaintance definition: a person one knows, but who is not a close friend.

I’d like to think that the side that believes men and women can be friends would chime in but I think this is a situation even they would say no. But mature adults possible could? It’s a tough situation as most humans will get jealous just because that’s human nature and how we’ve been programmed to be I guess.
