Now that I’ve been looking at it a bit more, I should’ve described it as a brushed metal as opposed to woodgrain. Regardless, just a beautiful touch.

Because they're STUPID.

97/98 was such a fail year.

God bless.

Big congratulations on adding this card though.
Lol yea, that sucks our pc guys aren’t in some of our favorite sets. Blessing and a curse, really. As much of a budget collector as I am I still feel like I spend too much on this (pretty) crap.

So true.

A lot of this stuff is still overpriced, but hopefully we end up seeing pre-2010 prices.

Sorry, it's not a pick-up but I had to post it. Something looks off and funny at the same time.

ebay pics don't tend to work well when hot linking - nothing loads for me

lol, this is him putting down his nickname with no signature. Sometimes players add their signature, looks kind of stupid without it...

Would’ve been pointless with his earlier autos just because 9 times out of 10 he signed “Penny Hardaway” anyway. Nowadays it’s more like “P H” so I guess I can see the allure.

I just stay away from his Panini autos altogether.

Hello fellow penny heads! Sorry if it's off topic. Just got back into the hobby and I'm just about done obtaining my very select set of Pennys! I just need help as to which Twitter accounts I'd do well to follow in order to obtain these last two bad boys which almost never appear on eBay. I've already combed through COMC, myslabs and some random sites in between but the three below have been the toughest to source. I'm sure they are out there, if the price is right. :")

Any leads, much appreciated! Mucheeseemas gracias!

[ 1 ] 1997-98 SPx ProMotion #PM7 Anfernee Hardaway (Rounded)
[ 2 ] 1996-97 Fleer Metal Molten Metal #3 Anfernee Hardaway (Lenticular)
[ 3 ] 1997 Upper Deck Holojam #20 Anfernee Hardaway

Do you have Instagram? I’m in a Penny group chat I can send an invite to.

The only one of those that should be a little pricey is the 97-98 Promotion.

Big card in today, relatively speaking. There are only a handful of case hit Penny inserts even on my wantlist anymore. Parallels? Now that’s another (expensive) story.

This is my first time having a 2nd year Golden Touch in hand. I still like the originals more, and really wish Penny was in that set as well, but having this in person gives me a new appreciation for them. It’s just a beautiful texture used on the surface. I believe Jean of Arena Design once commented that it’s a unique stock itself used. It’s almost like a woodgrain.

I now present some golden wood…

Such an awesome card design and I like the pic they used, too. They just don't make 'em like that anymore. These were very tough pulls IIRC

I saw his /5 Black Gold 2021 Prizm sell for like $950 raw on ebay recently.
I dont know why but I was surprised to see that.

1:360 and I think 15 card set? If they were numbered I don’t see why something like say /500 or less would be too outlandish. I do wonder how off I actually am. It might be calculable given there were numbered cards in the product.

Yea, I couldn’t imagine paying that much for modern. I think what’s happened is that many of the 90s star collectors with better pc’s than mine literally have everything already, so all that’s left to chase is newer cards.

On an unrelated note, having returned to the hobby last month, I made a few realizations of people's buying patterns over eBay:

mid - high priced Penny cards are holding strong, valued more at times even and snapped up pretty quickly relative to say Shaq, Iverson, Garnett and G.Hill. Most of the latter four's cards are gathering dust on eBay even though they are priced a bit lower versus Pennys.

I kinda find it a bit surprising given Shaq won four chips, Garnett won one too, Iverson had a lengthier career at the top and G.Hill, though similarly sidelined for prolonged periods, was just as popular back then. I think it has a lot to do with Penny's banner years of 95-96, just before the injuries. A lot of folks saw him as the Air apparent, but with an arguably cooler demeanor and more relatable character.

Unless of course those who came back to the hobby much earlier than I did have already had their fill of the latter four and are sourcing Penny's cards last. Tempting as it is to snap up their cards, I am doing my best to avoid it so I can focus my pitiful budget for the few Pennys I yearn to possess.

And no Paninis for me. It's funny when they serial number something... only to come up with another batch of serials and parallels. Market's flooded. I don't see the allure and exclusivity in it. I've learned to ignore those.

Also, I try to buy PSA slabs whenever I can over raw, but more so for the added security when shipping international as I'm not in the US. You guys are very lucky! :")
Shipping is an absurd $18 per card so I try to be very selective. I'll do the cheapo base Pennys last so I can bulk ship those for cheaper. Thanks for all the tips and guides! Really made it easy for a returnee to not get overwhelmed and ease back into the hobby after 30 years in the dark ages.

Hope to share my collection here soon!

I have a first year prizm 2012 Green prizm of his that I've been holding on to since I pulled it from a retail box a decade ago. Does anyone recall the approximate number of greens per card in retail that year?
I haven't found another one since and I know those first year greens were far more sparse than the subsequent years.
Thanks

Not a big card by any means, but this particular Penny Spectralight (there are 3 in the set) can be tricky to find. Definitely the nicest of the bunch due to the added amount of holofoil thanks to the subset design.

Thanks to pochiman for letting me know one hit MySlabs

great Spectralight! I believe there is promo base and promo spectralight versions of the base card. The cards have a thicker font of the name of the front. Ever seen those?

Pretty new to the hobby, went through my cards as a kid and best pull seems to be this Prime Choice Reserve Penny.

Pretty cool card from the 90s

Would be open to a trade if anyone here needs it.

Oh damn, had no idea. Mind sharing a comparison between the two if you have the Kukoc spectralight promo?

Here is my copies. Note that not all players have a promo. Only 8-10 players. Penny is one of them. Let me know if you have additional questions.

Normal Spectralight

Promo base

Promo Spectralight

^thanks for that, just when I thought my spectralight run was complete, I now have the promo to chase

Will definitely be looking out for copies with different font, odds are they won’t be titled properly

great info. I will have to check the backs for the red writing. Also there is a small letter in the lower right hand side on the back.

Grade popped for my Prizm Green today. Haven’t seen another one to know where to comp it. Greens seem to be quite limited the first year of Prizm
