Hey whenever you can give a bullpen pitcher with a 1.3 whip 13m you have to. He prob will have some decent starts then fall apart as the year goes on unless all of a sudden at age 32 he can throw over double the innings.

Considering he already was showing signs of reverting back to what he was in Pittsburgh I am glad he is gone. The Yankees were lucky that he had the one good year but he was never going to be able to sustain it. As a starter I expect him to get shelled I truly don’t think he can make it through a batting order more than once.

Hell, he can't even get out of the 9th most of the time without falling apart.

Adames is no longer an option if Soto doesn't re-sign.

It’s like their hands are tied until Soto makes a decision. If he goes elsewhere I want Hal to spend like a drunken sailor on the other free agents available. Letting Soto go elsewhere won’t be a mistake if they spend that money saved wisely.

Adames is not who they need and it’s no big deal they didn’t bother with him. 26 million a year for a fringe star, this league has gotten even more out of hand with stupid contracts if that was even possible.

Here's the remaining part of the trifecta: Judge goes down with an injury and Michael King wins the Cy Young

Cohen did Hal a favor. He made it look like Hal actually tried to resign Soto but based on past signings he was never going to spend that much after paying Judge what he is. I only hope they add the necessary pieces without paying a Kings ransom.

I was wrong. $765m plus $75m signing bonus, no deferrals, and added incentives is crazy. I don't get it.
I want to see the ROI plan for this. No way they make their money back. Even if he took that $760 from the Yanks, I would've had questions, albeit happy. Holy moly... what now? |

I don't foresee Cohen passing the reigns to his children like the Steinbrenners. Once he's made his money (or the opposite), he'll move on. |

I assumed Soto was a 1 year rental and would go to the highest bidder after that so Im not too surprised. Im glad the Yankees didn't end up with him at that insane price. Look how the fans constantly complain about the Stanton contract, Im sure the Soto deal will look just as bad towards the end of it.
Now the Yankees need to use the money they were hoping to get Soto with and make a better more complete team. Starter, relief help, 1st baseman (I assume DJ is not the answer), second/third baseman (Depending where Jazz plays next season) and an outfielder. It will be nice that Judge can slide back into RF at least |

If the Yankees spend that 750 million they had allocated for Soto they will be better without him.

New semi-realistic offseason plan now that Soto is dead to me:
1. Trade for 1B/OF Cody Bellinger.....The Yanks need a CF now that Judge can slide back to RF. He would also provide depth at 1B. The advantage the Yanks have over other teams is their desperation. They can tell the Cubs that they will eat all of Bellingers contract and not have to give up big prospects. 2. Sign 1B Carlos Santana..... DJLM cannot be the answer at 1B. If you can get Santana for 1 year under $10m then go for it. He played 150 games last year and provided great defense while sporting a 114 wRC+ and 23 bombs. There's not a lot of great options out there so I think this makes the most sense for right now. 3. Sign one of SP Max Fried or SP Corbin Burnes..... I would say sign both but I'm trying to stay realistic here. Either would work, in my opinion. Burnes is better and younger, but will be more expensive and require a bigger commitment. Fried is a lefty that is great at getting soft contact, that will play really well in YS but he hasn't fully bounced back after being hurt in 2023. Assuming one or both of Cortes/Stroman are gone, Burnes/Fried could easily slide into the 2/3 spot with Schmidt and Gil rounding off the back end of the rotation. 4. Sign RP Tanner Scott.... Along with improving the rotation, the bullpen needs help too. Scott was easily one of the best relievers the last couple of years and would immediately slide into a platoon closer role with Luke Weaver. Them two in the 8-9 innings would be fantastic. He's expected to get a 3 year deal around $36-40m. 5. Resign RP Tommy Kahnle..... I think it just works. When healthy, he's still a force to reckoned with. I would feel comfortable penciling him into the 6/7th inning role. This would be the only thing that would make me feel better right now. |

FA signings don't mean much to me. The Yankees will never be the Yankees again until they figure out how to discover and develop minor-league talent.

I guess just pay for pitching, get B tier offensive support and hope we produce talent from the farm. At the end of the day Judge will tank in the postseason so does it really matter?
