Even though Bryce has been fighting through some injuries the last few seasons, I'm still blown away that the Yanks were hardly interested.
He went to multiple games at the stadium during his off days while in town, cut/shaved when he played against them in NY, and had Boras reach out to the Yanks FO multiple times. He did everything he could to subtly let them know he was down to wear pinstripes and Cashman didn't give him the time of day. He would've easily been a fan favorite and would've made the money back right now. I can't think of a bigger FA that the Yankees dismissed like that. |

Fast forward 5 years and the FO now sees the window closing, thus Soto. Sent from my SM-S928U using Tapatalk |

2018 was Harper's final season with Washington.
That year the Yankees had at 1B Greg Bird - 82 G, 311 PA, .199/.286/.386/.672 with 11 HR, 38 RBI but the real man who kept us from Harper Luke Voit - 39 GP, .333/.405/.689/1.094 with 14 HR, 33 RBI Voit plus a 34-year-old Brett Gardner in LF are why we didn't get Harper (yes tongue in cheek). Voit actually had a solid 2019, but Gardner and Mike Tauchman took most of the ABs in the outfield next to Judge. We had places for Harper easy. And where are we now. Side note - Funny enough in 2022, Voit was traded to Washington from San Diego - for Juan Soto (well as a part of the package). So in a way, Voit did help us land Soto................

All the trades, non trades, signing and non signings over the years and not signing Bryce Harper remains for me the biggest question mark.

I almost got excited about this until I realized it's not the official ROY. Not sure why we need a competing one then.

Have read in a couple of places they may be interested in Carlos Santana as a stop gap option at 1B also. As one of my PC guys it would be cool to get him in some Yankees cards. He's not flashy but for his career he averages 20-25 hr's a year and he is a solid defender with an average of just 4 errors a season.

No surprise here, Aaron Boone is back.

Throw a scenario out there
Offseason is Soto, Walker, Durbin or youth at third, Jazz to second, and relievers. Are we happy?

It's nice to see that Hal is personally going to see Soto when the Yankees meet with him and Boras again. It should send a signal to him since Hal has been pretty much absent in contracts except calling Judge to get him to stay.

I don’t think with Soto it’s gonna matter if George Costanza showed up. I think it’s gonna be highest bidder whether it’s NY, NY or Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

1. Durbin 2. Soto / Kerry Carpenter (trade for) 3. Judge 4. Stanton 5. Walker / Alonso / Rice / Goldschmidt 6. Dominguez 7. Jazz 8. Wells / Trevino 9. Volpe Pick up a solid vet starting pitcher like Blake Snell. Sign Matt Carpenter for pinch hit ABs. I really like going after Kerry Carpenter from the Tigers for more firepower in the lineup. He and Judge have same hitting coach too. Along with Durbin. Needs are new defense, more firepower in the lineup, and solid starting pitching. |

I would meet with Soto if that’s what it takes.

they should do a soft rebuild if they can't keep soto, maybe after seeing one more season play out but there's obviously too many holes to be mended just
with FA signings or incoming prospects.. i know NYY never would do that tho

One thing that shouldn't be overlooked is Stanton's salary drops from 32M to 19M after next year. Really no excuse to not sign a bunch of guys.

Another thing to not overlook is that they are the Yankees and can basically print money, so they should always be signing players.

Judge signed long deal based on team trying to win. I see what you’re saying but trying young players to fill spots in the first half of the season is a good idea

With Judge and Cole getting older, you have to keep your foot on the gas. Holes can be filled. It's when there's a log jam of declining players under contract that forces a team to retool a la 2016. There's opportunity here to make another run with new 1B, 2B/3B, RP, SP and not commit long term (excluding Soto, of course). |
