No offseason for Ohtani buying. Never know if you'll see it again.

Here's a a question for all the Ohtani hodlers, especially those that got in early (pre 2021 MVP season):

When do you sell? (If ever)

Obviously the answer will be different for everyone based on many factors including: initial reasons for collecting/investing and financial/family status, point of buy-in etc.

Another way to phrase the question is at what point would you cash out from a card?
When it doubles in value? 5x? 10x? 100x? 300x?

What is "the offer you can't refuse?" Is there even a price high enough for certain PC cards?

One thing I've learned with all my investing (and regrettable sales) over the years is discipline. I don't sell unless unless I absolutely need the money (hopefully that won't ever happen again) or if there's something I want more than whatever I'm holding. For me, that something is a very nice cabin in the mountains. So I've got a ways to go before I'm there. Multipliers don't mean much to me compared to the opportunity cost of what I could have instead.

Good questions! It usually comes down to ones financial status in life that determines the time to sell. If it becomes life changing the chances are quite high someone will move a certain card because their quality of life improves and that's always a good idea!

I didn't start collecting Ohtani until 2021 and bought many cards at 2021 peaks, so I didn't get in at the bottom, but way below today's highs. I am lucky I will never have to sell my Ohtani collection for financial reasons. I wouldn't consider selling until after he retires/gets into the HOF. Or could just holding until my kids would want me to liquidate my collection.

I was buying in 2018 and still have everything I've ever bought (or ripped). I refocused my collecting in 2016 and instead of ripping boxes I started to buy singles. One of three players I focused on was Ohtani starting in 2018. I honed in on #d Flagship Parallels & SPs, #d Chrome Refractors, and Stadium Club parallels/inserts. I do plan on selling my base RC PSA 10's in the PSA vault post World Series and MVP announcement. I dont need the money right now but at some point the opportunity cost of the value of the collection will beat my enjoyment of owning it. I too would trade it for a cabin in the mountains.

Best time to sell is when real life calls for it

6x was my tipping point back in 2021.

Money became too real.

I’ve never regretted it, but this latest surge has got me realllllly close.

Every time he throws a pitch he thinks about the BJ fans saying “we don’t need you”

Shohei Ohtani is pitching in the World Series! I hope we all appreciate what we're watching right now.

(The fact that he was on base 9 times in an 18 inning game YESTERDAY is just insane)

He looks a little winded for sure, but he’s given it all he’s got! Crazy talent.
