I just watched Cuckoo. It wasn't bad. It was very strange. I'm glad I watched it. I'm not sure I'll ever watch it again. 6.5/10 Good effort.

I forgot to mention here that I saw "Opus" with Ayo from "The Bear" as a young journalist and John Malkovich as a mysterious pop star who comes out of retirement after 30 years and invites a select group to his cult-like compound to be the first to hear the new music.

But not really. He has them there for something else.

Some real Midsommar vibes in this one, but beyond that in the wider sense, I think this will go down as one of Malkovich's better performances, which is high-praise because he's had some great ones.

It's still on 1,200 screens for week 2, but should be streaming pretty soon as it's only made 1.8 million in 10 days. It's A24, so I think that means it goes to MAX when time comes.

The movie: 7.5/10
Malkovich: /10

Ah, come on. Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 was a good movie!

I’ve never seen the Final Destination movies so I figured I’d watch them since the new one is coming out in May. Yeah these movies suck, the first one is decent I guess. Bad CGI, amateur hour acting, confusing & illogical “rules”, etc. It was cool to see Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Amanda Crew in early roles in the third one though. Their talent was clear early as they acted circles around the other “actors”.

This was one of those movies that would have made a better book. The premise was great. The movie, good but not great.

My feeling toward these and most of the Saw movies are that they are a fun watch to see the interesting ways they can think of to kill people. Not to scare you, but to illicit a chuckle or two when the death scenes arrive.

Agreed. I think I read it was a plot for an episode of The X-Files that wasn’t used.

I always describe them as fun movies but not necessarily good movies. They're movies you can turn off your brain, ignore the absurdity and plot holes and just enjoy it for what it is. The first one tried to be too serious by making it seem like Death was a character lurking around every corner but they realized quickly that people just enjoy the absurdity.

If you haven't seen it before, look up the music video New Romance by Miles Fisher. It's a Saved by the Bell Parody with Final Destination death scenes made to promote the 5th movie (I believe it was the 5th) and it's wonderful!

The Gorge. Haven't finished watching it yet but I'm liking what I am seeing so far. Sort of a Resident Evil/Silent Hill sort of feel to it.

Before watching the end of it, please go to the spoiler thread to see how it turns out.

Watched The Substance finally. Really good time. Great body horror with an awesome soundtrack. The end going over the top wacky was so enjoyable.

Don’t Breathe 2. Terrible. Not even fun bad. Just bad.

Speak No Evil (remake). Good, but not great. Worth watching.

Escape Room: Tournament of Champions. Not good. But writing and acting so bad it makes it funny. Slightly fun bad.

The woman who wrote and directed "The Substance" has an earlier movie (from 2017) that is also pretty good.
It's called "Revenge" and is currently streaming on Shudder.

Pretty good. A little middling, but a decent time. Worth a watch.

The thing to remember with Final Destination is when they were made. They really epitomize the late 90s and early 00s culture in the US. They are fun to watch.

I do agree the first was the best, the rest went really downhill.

I think they built off the success of Scream and opened the door for the Saw franchise. Saw is also one of the ones that the premise was good, and the original was a good storyline with good acting, but from there they took the Hostel route and just wanted to see how ridiculous they could get.

All that said, I am looking forward to the new Final Destination. I have high hopes for it to be closer to the original.

Got my DVD of 'The Vourdalak' and I really liked it, cool, interesting movie with very little budget.

I saw the extended version of it.
In terms of the classic vampire story as Bram Stoker wrote it, I would say the latest "Nosferatu" remake tells that tale as well as any movie possibly could.

I just watched this the other night. It was a fun watch, but, nothing that's going to win any awards anytime soon. It's kind of sad that this is one of the better horror movies I've seen in awhile. The "Horror" genera is really tanked recently.
