It is. However other teams don’t have replacements such as Dustin May, stony Gonsolin, Shohei Ohtani, and Clayton Kershaw(scheduled to start Sunday).

Emmet Sheehan was throwing to live hitters either yesterday or today. And yah, plenty of other teams get hit by injuries.

Austin Barnes DFA'ed, Dalton Rushing brought up.

Rushing has nothing left to prove in the minors, he was putting up all star caliber numbers there. And the Dodger lefty bats not named Freeman or Ohtani just suck this year. So the move makes sense. Lets hope rushing can do it in the ML.

I'd guess they have the aims of resting Smith even more than they already were where he was sitting once a series. I think there also may be some value in getting Freeman a day off and eventually Ohtani when he pitches. I'd hope he's playing 3-4 days a week.
