Everyone relax, Rush Limbaugh has it all figured out. It's just the common cold, and the whole world is in cahoots to discredit our president.

I'm not making it political, I'll just leave it as it's just a cold.

I wonder about Trump, first he wants to cut 3 billion for health services. Then he says warmer weather will kill the virus, then wants 2.5 billion to fight it and now congress is having closed door meetings. Any leadership or just going by the next soundbite.

Maybe he will get another Medal of Freedom for his incredible insight.

Quietly on the John's Hopkins map that everyone is checking, the reported infection numbers are not growing very fast, but the death number is increasing. It's roughly 3.5% now. The scary thing is that China is fighting back with hospital resources, but some countries don't have that capability. Look at Iran: 95 reported cases, but 16 deaths.

A lot of stories comparing flu to Covid-19. People mutter that it's just a bad flu, but jeebers, last time I had flu I was IN BED with a 103+ fever for 3days. And flu is .01% fatal. 100,000 flu cases = 14 deaths. Covid-19 80000 cases, 2800 dead, and that's hoping that the Chinese aren't fudging the numbers.

Scary that the DHS Secretary was going to the same damn website I am to check #s instead of to the government agency tasked with covering it: the CDC. I don't like what I'm seeing at the top, and I don't think I'm alone.

Assume lies and cover ups as China's coronavirus hits the U.S.

China had hundreds of people infected by the Wuhan Coronavirus outbreak last year and kept it quiet for months

A US soldier stationed in Korea has tested positive for coronavirus

Summary of all NEW cases of Corona virus in Europe in ca last 24 hours.

- 90 in Italy
- 7 in Spain
- 2 in Germany
- 2 in France
- 2 in Austria
- 1 in Switzerland
- 1 in Croatia

Italy has 322 infected in total and 11 dead.

18 medical staff have died from the coronavirus in China

14 days might not be enough. “Hotel worker, 56, is diagnosed with coronavirus after testing negative EIGHT TIMES in 17 days while in quarantine”

CDC: The American people should prepare for the possibility that their lives may be disrupted b/c of coronavirus.
Says people may have to stay home from work, schools and daycares may close.
And people should make plans for how to handle that, now. (Telecommuting, child care plans.)

Don’t let anyone shame you out of talking about the virus, preparing for it, or reallocating resources accordingly.

The time for winning internet points via above-it-all sarcasm and condescension towards people who took this seriously has now officially drawn to a close.

The deaths will be a high proportion of cases reported after the initial stages of an outbreak in a new country, as there is great bias toward under reporting. The vast majority of cases are mild enough that you wouldn’t know the difference between this and the common cold.

Current information suggests that the virus may survive a few hours on surfaces. Simple household disinfectants can kill it.

At a certain point, the "remain calm, all is well" routine is going to become more difficult to sustain and those advocating it may come to resemble Kevin Bacon's ROTC character at the end of Animal House attempting to discourage the sidewalk stampede.

Starting to get a little worrysome- I feel like the CDC meeting yesterday has laid the groundwork for a bigger, scarier update this week.

Our Mayors just declared the State of Emergency just for safety measures, nothing has happen yet.

Everyone is going for the click bait sensationalist angle. Personally I think the CDC's update yesterday was just more of that and then people panic and lap it up. There are a bunch of garbage sites with garbage click bait gloom and doom information that no one verifies. I'll go to Reddit for laughs because many of those people are just bat crap crazy.

So a guy caught it after being quarantined after testing negative 8 times. Maybe he came into contact with someone on day 16. Diamond Princess showed us how effective some 'quarantines' are. But nope.. quarantined for 17 days testing negative 8 times means that the virus is hidden for days and days and can't detect it at all so, better panic. (google searching that exact sentence led me to daily mail uk which is a hard pass)

To quote Men in Black : 'A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it.'

I completely understand the sensational news (I've been following since the end of last year); what is worrysome to me is it appears that people are being released because their tests are clear, only to test positive again days later. It also appears that the Executive Branch is downplaying it and could be instructing news outlets on how they release for sake of the market (only an assumption of mine, not intending this to be a political statement)

As for Reddit, yea I'd say 20% is actually relevant and the rest fer-mongering but man, is it fun to get some of those doomsdayers going!

What I'd ask is how many other people that can viruses can be positive/negative/positive after a few days span and have it re-occur. I don't have the answer for that. I know I've had the flu, been over it for 4-5 days and then relapsed.

Of course, you could also wonder 'Is it common? Bad batch of test kits? Where the tests even administered, the hospital just wrote it off and the person was truly never over it'. Unfortunately at face value, you see the positive tests again and think 'Oh no.. you can't be sure of ever being healthy even if they say you are'.

As for politics, it will spin itself 2 ways. Right now, one side will say it isn't being played up because Trump wants to protect the markets, the other side will say it is being played up too much to damage Trump.

Remember last month when it was WWIII between the US and Iran?

Now we've got the plague.

What will March's apocalypse be? I'm think something space-related. Either a solar flare or an asteroid scare.
