The Mrs. and I rented it for $4 on Prime. It's a bit long, but I enjoyed it.

Watched recently...

The substance
The coffee table
Megan Is missing

The top two are good watches and the bottom one is awful besides the last 20 minutes, which is still awful but it's awful in a horror sense not a movie sense.

Saw "Wolf Man" tonight. Not terrible, but not great.
The script still needed some work. Effects were decent, while the sound design was excellent.
It was in both of the biggest auditoriums at our 16-plex, but there weren't many people watching with us, and that's on half-price popcorn day.

The Coffee Table felt like it was made just for me, I really enjoyed it.

Kudos for using real Romanian actors for the Transylvania scenes (being a Romanian, I can appreciate the authenticity more).

Long story short, had potential to be a 10, gets a mild 8. Overall good stuff.
It did get 4 Oscar noms, you were right.
There's an expanded version available for home viewing now, but I haven't seen it yet.

Based on the success of "Nosferatu", Eggers will be back on Christmas Day, 2026, with "Werwulf", which is a foreign word I don't understand.
I'm thinking it's about a killer mummy of some kind.

But seriously, his werewolf movie seems to be a go. Maybe Eggers will just deliver a new take on a classic monster every couple of years, sort of like his own monsterverse, like Universal Studios had, and eventually have them all meet up on Monster Island around 10 years from now.

Presence was ok for a haunted house movie. Just don’t expect anything earth shattering from the director. Very atmospheric but honestly The Brutalist was far more chilling.

I thought it was good.

86% Rotten Tomatoes
74+ Million USA gross
52+ Million International
That's almost 127 million total returned on less than 10 million in production costs, and about the same in advertising.

Longlegs 2 (or perhaps Longer Legs) is surely going to happen at some point.

Watched Companion tonight. If you are planning on seeing it, DO NOT WATCH ANY TRAILERS OR PROMOS, just trust me. The film was OK, but it was an unpleasant theater experience. There was a guy a few seats down who was talking to the characters and saying things like "OH NO", it was almost at a level where I was going to say something to him, but it wasn't quite bad enough and I also couldn't tell if he was, I don't know the proper term nowadays, but I'll try mentally challenged? I have stood up and told people to STFU in theaters multiple times in my life, it's just a big pet peeve of mine, but like I said the guy was borderline on the volume level and might have been not all there so I bit my tongue. The movie itself telegraphs everything and wasn't the same kind of fun as Barbarian, but I probably would have enjoyed it a bit more if not for that guy. I looked at him when the lights came up and I honestly couldn't tell.

Just wanted to add this was AMC's "Scream Unseen" on Monday and they classified it as a horror movie so that's why I posted it here. I figured it was either Companion or Heart Eyes and was happy when it turned out to be Companion as I had 0 interest in seeing Heart Eyes.

Saw it tonight at the walk-in, and for only $5.
Not a lot of movies really go for it these days.
"The Substance" did.
There was a whole lotta Davids (Lynch and Cronenberg) in there, with a dash of "Re-Animator" from Stuart Gordon and "Society" from Brian Yuzna.
It certainly joins the Pantheon of classic body horror flicks and the satire was on-point.

"Anora", starring Mikey Madison (Demi Moore's fellow Best Actress nominee) was also only $5 at the same cinema tonight. I'm guessing the studios underwrite the $5 tickets on these re-releases in the hopes of generating some extra buzz for their nominees during the Oscar voting period.

Meanwhile my theater only had one showing of The Brutatlist and I don't think it actually existed, it showed "sold out" from the time I first noticed it.

I'll go see Presence SB weekend I have a buddy coming in who likes horror, think it could be an interesting experience.

I guess the rule is if it's over 20 years old it's open season?

It’s absolutely a cult classic. Having a stacked cast and being directed by Robert Rodriguez doesn’t hurt either. The fact it just got a 4K release from Scream Factory is pretty much its stamp of approval as a cult classic. With that being said it doesn’t need a remake.

So Matthew Lillard along with is offficially returning for the next Scream movie. The leaps in logic to write him back into the franchise will be quite vast even for a Scream film. Unless it’s some dream sequence like we got with Skeet Ulrich.

I had no idea it had a cult following! I saw it theaters and don't think I've ever heard anyone say anything about it til this day. Learned something new, thanks!
