Curious on thoughts guys: Are the Bowman Chrome Refractor base /499 and the Purple Refractor /250 the same value? And is one a better buy than they other or take my pick? thanks!

Purple (along with Green and Pink) have an awesome Retail Stigma Stench to them

If everything else is equal, I will always choose the lower numbered parallel. General perception of the purple, and to a lesser degree the green, has always been unfairly akin to the red headed stepchild, but I think it’s silly. Unrealized value opportunity with Shohei, who does not have many. I personally love the TCA purple as it’s a deep purple and greens in general always remind me of the baseball field grass.

I’m a big fan of the purple. Aesthetically, purple and red (Angels) look great together. Kind of like a Cherry Coke

. And purple and blue (Dodgers) sit right next to each other on the color wheel, meaning there’s a natural harmony, and can be often found together in nature.

The purple and /499 2018 BC refractors also don’t have auto parallels, which doesn’t make them more rare by the numbers, but is a distinguishing factor.

I think Id go with B being better. Everyone knows he is a pitching stud and at this point he is just accumulating individual accolades. In 5 years, people will know he won 2 WS in a row, they wont remember that he pitched 5 decent innings and lost.

I think purple and green feel more okay when it isn't a refractor. Gets it further away from the retail stigma that TPB is talking about.

Can't be that much of a stench, a gem green sold for $58k 2 weeks ago.

I don't get the continued disdain for green and purple. Are they as nice as red, orange, gold and blue? No. But they still are very desirable.

Roberts said he only plans on Ohtani going once in the series. If that is the case he should go game 4 to make sure the other 3 are on full rest if it goes 7.

yes, but a blue would easily blow past 90K with a decent auto - so all relative.

I think ideas like "multipliers" are (or already have) going out the window to some extent. People are getting what they can get when they can get it.

Sadly, the green wasn’t paid for. Looks like it was relisted. Be careful about taking comps for face value, ESPECIALLY auctions (most notably those on eBay as you can getting a better idea of possible shenanigans with bidding)…

At this point anything numbered from 2018 is gonna cost you regardless of color. Refractors get the shiny bonus, but even his paper bowman Sky Blue /499 in PSA 9 is over $1k.

Purple, green, wave, it doesn't matter so much anymore when the supply of good stuff is drying up. Don't even get me started on his "Pajama" RC offerings.
