Hypothetical question for holding some serious Shohei cards.

Lets say he wins another WS & MVP this year, would you cash out now? Or continue to hold?

Depends on what kind of investor you are. Do you sell Nvidia because it's up 10000% or do you keep it because there's still plenty of potential.

There's a WBC coming up and plenty more good seasons for Ohtani to go. He could still have a 45+ HR, 20 Win season.

i would say that those that have those cards are not concerned about selling them

at this point the only reason to sell his cards are for real life stuff or trading up

I think the responses you will get in this forum will be pretty biased to never sell unless your financial situation calls for it.

Its like if I asked bitcoin people if I should sell if it hits 150k. They will say HODL its going to get to $1,000,000.

The real questions is if you sell now, can you live with yourself with this scenario in 2034:

- Shohei wins 7 MVPs, 3+ World Series titles, 90+ WAR
- Successfully transfused the Asian market to MLB
- Consensus top-5 all-time baseball player, #1 modern
- High-end sells on-par with high-end NBA without volatility

Yeah, it's this. Even if an oil tycoon started buying Shohei cards, the market is pretty limited and there are cards that will never be acquired. Many Sho collectors are well off enough where selling isn't even a consideration.

Would you rather take the advice of people who told you to sell at $20,000?

I think in most baseball player's opinion he is the greatest of all time. The high value for a handful of sports figures like Brady, Jordan etc are astronomical because they did something no one else could... We will never see another MVP caliber hitter & pitcher. GOAT. I just hate I cashed out on a lot of stuff 2 years ago!

Don't forget 2034 is right when those Ohtani 50/50 redemptions expire!

I will be interested to see what happens to baseball cards in general late next season. If someone's thing is to buy for a short term flip, will they buy if there is a good possibility of a shortened season in 2027?

I own zero bitcoin. My analogy is that people in this forum including me are bullish on Ohtani and not looking to sell.

In 2022-23, people were getting bent out of shape when Shohei was called a future hall of famer. Now, nobody is arguing because it's such an obvious claim.

Arguably, it's the same thing now with the GOAT debate where many people are getting mad from the "not my guy" bias and claiming a part-time plumber from the early 1900s was better. If Shohei continues down this path as a clean TWP player with 5-7 MVPs, there will no longer be any argument. You can still argue that there are multiple GOATs based on era, which is why I stated "modern."

Both positive and negative things "could" happy by then.

Lets say you had a BC Blue/Gold/Orange Refractor auto, do you hold? Or, do you cash out at the casino now and run.

If you have somewhere better to put the money, go for it. If you don't, it's a nice place to keep it.

I have four main Ohtani cards left after selling my Bowman Chromes (3 Series 2 golds, Update pitching variation PSA 9) and I'm wanting to turn those into one bigger card.

I think my dream card, that's somewhat within reach financially, would be like 2018 Chrome Gold. Although I might have to settle for a Gold Wave, since the regular Gold seems to be priced about twice as high.

Your dream card is a Chrome gold batting non-auto?

Beautiful. I think that’s my dream too. Or maybe an orange. But after buying a blue, my wife would say, “no more dreams for you!” In the voice of the Soup Nazi.
