I’m sure democratic socialism means something to a bunch of different people, and attaching labels to things is a sure fire way to ignore the issue completely.

We already have forms of socialism in this country, it’s just that we pick the winners and losers in society and generally our picks do not benefit society as a whole.

Tesla was just given millions in subsidies by my local government while small businesses are being closed left and right. That’s a form of socialism.

Local governments subsidize major sports franchises year after year with tax dollars. Tons of professional sports owners have increased their net worth with 9 figures of tax dollars.

We constantly funnel money to the top in this country without batting an eye, but when you want to try to funnel pennies to the bottom portion of the country we hear the same reasoning over and over again. Why is that?

A naive person will believe that.

The Dems say this forever and that only the rich will pay for it when in fact the rich did not get rich by being stupid and will always have ways to avoid pay extra taxes thus it's the middle class paying the extra taxes to take care of the welfare people.

That AOC and Bernie are communists rather than Fabians. Bernie still gets his ideas and language from his stacks of old Daily Worker.

How the Media Could Get the Election Story Wrong
We may not know the results for days, and maybe weeks. So it’s time to rethink “election night.”

I don't want the government even providing that, but a non-naive person knows that the government wouldn't stop there. Once you let the government have control of that, it's only a matter of time before they want everything. I don't know how people don't see the pattern the government always goes by. "We can start of taking just this small thing, then wenwill take away another thing. Before they know it, we will control everything."

We facilitate it by doing stupid crap. And also by not holding either party accountable for anything.

Hopefully there is a clear winner on election night, otherwise this year will make 2000 look like child's play.

I still have my Palm Beach and Miami Dade county voting booths from the 2000 Florida election. I let my girls bring them in to their classrooms every election day and the kids vote in them. The teachers love it.

This is definitely the biggest problem.

A "lame take?"

The only thing similar in these situations is chalk. That's it.

One did it in front of cops who clearly said what would happen if they continued.

The other happened at some point, by some person and cops were not present, watching and/or warning.

The message means nothing.

Police departments are rarely viewed as bastions of liberal thought.

Arguing about outlier events is asinine.

Note the complete lack of acknowledgement of this post.

Note how nobody here actually offers a proposal or platform that would be collectively beneficial for this country, but they'll be sure to jump out of the woodwork to denounce all new ideas as the 'future ruination of this country'

I propose that you be publicly spanked for accusing anyone of a lack of acknowledgement of.. anything.

There are no points to acknowledge from the majority of you, but your petty response doesn't surprise me. I don't expect much from Republicans anymore. It's a party that preys on miseducating their impoverished base to vote against their own best interests, while continually pushing to defund public education & the arts.

The people at the top also make our laws. Pretty simple.

Like we do individually, locally and nationally we invest resources where they are most likely to grow, not shrink.

I am not sure exactly what/where you want to throw more money at, but I was and still am a supporter of school vouchers and privatization of Social Security. Vouchers would introduce needed competition in education and SS privatization would completely knee-cap much of the political games played with our "budget" (we don't do those anymore though. We exist on CR's). UBI or subsidizing unemployment is a non starter for me. I could get behind subsidizing employment through payroll tax breaks. I also think Social Security taxes should not cut off after a certain level of income.

I don't know how you do it. You speak of an interest in psychology, but you have zero interest in applying any of it to yourself. "Everyone else is _____. I am ___ (runs out of the room)."

There was a word you used earlier; 'compromise'.

How does this account for industries becoming increasingly automated? In which sectors are the jobs going to be created in the future?
Employment subsidies would only benefit workers in industries where there exists increasing demand for labor.

This is why I am a proponent of UBI as a baseline a rising cost of living.
There also needs to be increase of regulations within the residential real estate market.

By the way Rman, 'majority' does not = everyone else. Please do run out of the room into a room with more bright colors and counting blocks.

I just always find it funny when people “don’t want socialism” yet the country socializes almost all big industry. They will never socialize YOUR business though.

The current pandemic highlights this inequity perfectly. The last financial recession also highlighted this behavior perfectly.

I believe it was Ben Bernanke who said something along the lines of not bailing out the mortgages that were underwater in 2008 because it would (paraphrase) “incentivize bad behavior”. They bailed out the bad behavior up top instead, which also happened to cost more money.

Just somewhat funny, is all. Let the people have their culture war.

Vouchers are a cash grab for wealthy white people disguised as helping minorities. Why bother privatizating SS? Just phase it out or kill it.

The lasting effect of a housing market crash, mortgage defaults, ensuing short sales & foreclosures is of course that it allows a prime opportunity for real estate investors to swoop in at buy-low opportunities. This furthers wealth consolidation for both a potential primary asset for the majority of Americans (owning a home), and increased reliance on inflated tenancy rates rather than paying off one's mortgage thus perpetuating generational wealth gaps.

But all forms of socialism are bad. Free market economics is the only way.

Again, with the bad mortgages, the people at the top make all the decisions. Bad policy made the housing crash happen. They incentivized loans to those that should not have them, much like they have done with education loans today. Bad policy again. We should strive to keep government out of as much as we can. They ruin everything eventually. The more local we can keep the dollars, the better.

You won't get an argument with me about killing SS. I am 40 and would opt out if I could as long as I didn't have to pay another dollar.

Wealthy white people already have school choice. I think vouchers would be a good alternative, even a dollar for dollar match from the federal government for local school taxes paid for those that choose to enroll their child outside the public system. Many public schools are a disaster. Especially urban schools.

Jonathan Issac tore his ACL. The woke people people can rejoice.

It's sickening to see the amount of people happy that he tore his ACL... all because he stood for the National Anthem.
