SGC 10 and BGS 10 are harder to get than a PSA 10 from my own experience. I agree that cracking an SGC 10 is silly but I guess PSA 10s can sell for more so.. who knows. hopefully SGC catches up a lot more than they already have

Maybe, they had an instagram post last Friday stating they took more cards that day than any other single day in their history. If that data point is an indication, than they are doing just fine with submissions. As stated before, things will have another monumental shift when PSA clears their backlog. That is still many months away, obviously.

People like Personal Finance Dad, Retro Hoop Collectibles, etc... all have bigger pull in the hobby than people realize. Even at 5 to 20 thousand subscribers is huge in the community. Even Sports Card Investor is pushing them, because he has a financial interest in them. He was bashing CSG on his last video without even knowing anything about their company or the backlog. He is a complete scumbag and only cares about making money in this hobby. He is one of those people that you think are nice, and then will try to rip off a 90-year-old lady to make a few bucks. However, he has pull over his idiot followers and if he says HGA is greatest grading company in the world, people will believe him. ![]() With SGC still getting submissions it shows that the hobby is still strong right now and won't collapse further like I anticipate. I am actually seeing some of my 80's and 90's graded cards sneak back up in price right now. I think we will see another boom when PSA gets to $25 or less and opens up after their backlog. However, we will see another dip in 2023 once that excitement is gone.

SGC is a second tier ultra modern grading company and will probably fade to irrelevance for that segment as PSA increases throughput and lowers pricing. Their 9.5 and 9s are absolute death for flippers, who are the marginal grading customers and the ones that utilize SGC because of its quick turnaround time.

No qualms with SGC until I recently ripped a 2018 Topps Solo: A Star Wars Story sketch card and sent in for grading.
Received the 'A' which I believed was 'authentic' due to it being a 1/1 unique sketch card. In listening to Peter's interview with SCN yesterday, ALL SGC graded 'A' cards they believe that while authentic have been altered. Frustrated to say the least as I personally pulled and sent in the card! Going back/forth with customer service right now.

However, I don't think this is what happened in your case. There is handwriting by the artist on the back of your card. SGC doesn't authenticate autographs and this having handwriting on the back may have triggered an issue with them. I would call customer support and they should be able to give you an answer.

I am glad this SGC sketch card grading question has come up and look forward to any information about the topic. I originally thought it might be the no auto grading change. Both examples below are 1/1 sketch cards. So is there something I am missing or was there a change. Or is it just a miscut/min size/altered thing (as mentioned)?
This one was graded in March 2021: https://www.ebay.com/itm/23442646906...iDu-A&LH_All=1 OP's was graded Feb 2022: https://www.ebay.com/itm/15485124091...0AAOSwrg1iBePv |

Clueless? He’s right, people are using SGC to scratch the grading itch on modern stuff until PSA opens up a lower price tier. One of the only reasons they are seeing an uptick in market share is because they are the only company getting cards back in a timely manner. When/if PSA throws at an accessible $25-30 option SGC will fade, still be relevant, but definitely fade.

All of these new collectors and existing ones who have switched need to be "locked" in. Make it more difficult to switch to PSA. |
