Sold my PSA 10 Gold Vinyl in Feb 2022 for 540K. Bought this one last night with the house money. I still have my NT RPA/99. I was debating between the Gold Vinyl and Contenders Cracked Ice PSA 10. I would have gone for the Cracked Ice if the auto wasn't streaky.

Awesome to see the Mahomes market flat lining out now. We can be pretty confident that the market isn't getting too pumped up right now so these current prices are surely stable and unlikely to go up or down over the next year.

The kid just won the super bowl in epic fashion and his cards didn't double in price overnight. That means it's time to buy buy buy baby!

I love it! Win pulls out the inventory with no bump, just as what happened in Feb 2020. Meteoric rise came during the summer.

Patty is already up there so I wouldn't expect a big bump. More so, age like a fine wine.

Thanks Guys! The same card sold for 360K in Aug 2022. I know its not apples to apples comparison and there are more basketball card collectors out there compared to football cards but my thought process was if a gem mint Lebron TC Gold Refractor with 50 copies is still selling for 500K-900K, the Mahomes Gold Vinyl with only 5 copies should appreciate in the long run if he continues to play well and wins one or two more SB's. There is likely more downside left in the market but I was not sure if another one of these will show up in the next few months, so I ended up pulling the trigger on this one. There are still risks involved but I like the risk to reward right now at current prices especially after his second SB win. Let's see how this plays out.....

Scared money don't make money, or something like that

Reminds me talking with my brother about cards, and he thought they were terrible investments. I didn't have the full funds to buy one back in 2017/2018, but I was trying to convince my brother to get in on a Contenders auto RC of Brady. He thought it was a joke they were selling for $8k-$10k.

But, that said, I told him my plans for some of my cards(ie wait until my kids need the money for college, or whatever down the road), and his whole thought process was just sell now, no way they continue to go up.

My line of thinking, the studs, it is very unlikely they go down. For instance, your Gold Vinyl. Sure, Mahomes might somehow forget how to play QB and go out and play like Derek Carr for a decade, but I don't think his prices suddenly tank.

And if the card market tanks to where these drop significantly, despite still great play, well then we have bigger struggles on our hands than investment in cards.

Myself, I'm trying to decide if I want to dabble into a "low" end rookie auto of Mahomes. Hard to explain to my wife spending so much on a card though right now lol

PCP amazing cards and getting to free roll them is just icing on the cake. The overall market may dip a bit still, but the gold vinyl is not worth risking, who knows if another one comes up in the next few years.

Trading the PSA 10 for $425k and a BGS 9.5 certainly sounds like a good deal to me.

I was shocked how flat it was also.

I looked up the Psa pop on prizm Rc Psa 9 and 10

Pop report was so low and he is obviously so good.

I bought my first mahomes card 2017 prizm Psa 9. Should have it tomorrow

Card might be the Best Buy in the football hobby at a grand if you think he’s going to win more mvp and super bowls

Going to be a lot more scarce than post 2017 Prizm RC stuff, and a legitimately tough grade as well.

Congrats to everyone on their recent pick ups. It’s been awhile in this thread since we’ve seen a steady stream of pickups. It’s about damn time… Going to be a fun couple of months as we lead up to the season.

Do you guys think pricing will fall in the coming months and then pick up in August, or buck the trend and see price appreciation?

I don't really think they go down much. Two main reasons. First, I'm not seeing a flood of listings, at least in the lower end stuff I am actively targeting ($10-$100 #ed raw and sub $300 PSA 10 slabs). It's been relatively quiet compared to the deluge of stuff listed up to the Super Bowl. Too quiet. I'm having withdrawals. I want to see that blue dot with a big number. Gimme some stuff to look at, sellers!

Second, this offseason is going to be an exciting one for KC. The draft is in KC! There are a lot of exciting storylines that will play out. Justyn Ross balling in training camp. KT and Skyy getting in work down at Camp Mahomes in Texas. Likely gonna be at least one guy that takes a team friendly deal to stay, choosing a career filled with glorious victory over that marginal dollar somewhere else. All this is to say, on top of the magnitude of what just happened really setting in with people, there will be constant reminders all of season of who Mahomes and the Chiefs are. Demand will hold firm.

The more I think about it, running the table with MVP, SB, and SB MVP this season solidified Mahomes as an all-time great.

He could retire today and be a 1st ballot HOF and I think most ppl would have him as a top 5 QB of all-time.

Maybe some of his prices were higher because some of those things were baked in like they are with all prospects/young players. But barring outside economic forces, I can see this being the floor of his cards going forward. I guess he could see a dip if he goes 10 years between SB wins like Brady, but I doubt there will be that kind of drought.

What are some of the hobby/football-related downward pressures? I'm not as familiar with the fb market.

Also, the 2022 class of QBs hasn't done much and isn't causing a lot of hype. And it's unlikely there will be a lot of 2023 stuff out by the time the season starts.
