Talk about a tricky situation regarding trading for Soto. Padres wont get close to what they gave up for him. I'm sure they will talk to pretty much every team so this will take a while.

They will certainly get good value for him, and they have gotten two years out of him. So, it won’t exactly be a loss.

And, while there’s a good a chance this will change, as of now the Nationals still really don’t have any star-level players from the deal.

I'm not sure why anyone should expect the Padres' return for 1 year of Soto to be anything close to what they gave up for 2 1/3 years of Soto. It really shouldn't be close.
