I do have some mixed feelings though! Last year was an incredible year at the plate with a 50/50 season. Sort of little let down this year. I know the SB's would be down this year was hoping for 50/30.
I wish he was striking out less but he looks great on the mound and it seems like he might walk away with his 4th MVP (even if it isn't unanimous), which is insane. As long as he keeps accumulating WAR and marching towards a first ballot HOF induction I'm happy!

(speaking of WAR he just passed Koufax on the all-time list)

Just keep that arm healthy for 20ish IP in the playoffs and I'll be very happy. Until him arm dies, the regular season should just be a tune-up for the playoffs every single year.

Going into the year my thinking was that adding back pitching makes up for any regression on his offense assuming he stayed above a certain floor (that was 30-35Hr for me), which he has already surpassed.

What bugs me is that he's the type to sit on offspeed pitches and wallop them to the moon. Lately when those pitches come, he's not squaring them up and end up as fouls. Combine that with the high velo chase rate up in the zone and occasional down and in breaking ball chase, it is really doing a number on his contact/K rate and consequentially, average. I would really like to see him mentally reset before playoffs, as those pitchers will dig in.

Feels like 2022 again. A great year, but muted relative to 2021. Then came the WBC, two more MVPs, and a World Series. There is another WBC next year, and hopefully a full season of pitching. 2022 also ended up being a good year for picking up some cards.

2022 was arguably his best year from a two-way standpoint, he just got overshadowed by Judge's HRs...

2022 was honestly the best year to watch Sho in-person. I went to nearly every home start from 2021-23 and that frisby slider/sinker he brandished was mind boggling. You could see the ball movement from your seats.

My now-wife bought us tickets to see the Angels for two games in Seattle in June of 2022, and the first game just so happened to be when Shohei was pitching. 6 shutout innings and 2-for-4 at the plate. Trout hit two homers and drove in all 4 in the 4-1 win.

Would love to see him pitch again, but tickets will probably be four times as much, regardless of where he's playing!

I saw him pitch in 2023 and by the 4th inning I was so overheated I had to stand in the shade

it was still fun but man day games are rough

Not an expensive card by any means, but a great looking one. Two of my favorite players

And lastly for the day….Shotime!

Centering is the only thing preventing this from a 10!

It looks centered enough! Poor Ohtani he's getting tired of signing his name!

That’s probably why his batting has been a little down lately. Carpel tunnel

Shohei 3 hits
Mookie 2-run blast
Kershaw outduels Scherzer
Dodgers win!

ESPN said Shohei was the seventh player with 1000 career hits and 500 career strikeouts on the mound.

So far we have John Ward, Dave Foutz and Kid Gleason.

I found Cy Seymour who has 1724 career hits and 591 career strikeouts and Elmer Smith who has 1456 career hits and 525 career strikeouts.

No luck on that seventh player though.

I wept figurative tears of joy when he laid off the two outside pitches and the high fb.
