At least for Carol, they VASTLY improved on the comic version. Starting out as a beaten woman who didn't have a voice of her own to one of if not THE strongest characters on the show. Sure beats the comic version which...

*Committed suicide by zombie after Tyreese cheated on her with Michonne*

As for the episode potentially being cut, the sad part is that AMC isn't bound by FCC regulations because it is a subscription only channel (as is every channel only on cable or satellite). The only reason they self police is due to sponsors. It didn't need to be a huge scene, just him saying something along the lines of, "I'll make sure no one ever touches you again," or something similar would have made a HUGE difference.

I'll never get people. You have a show that has shown people getting ripped apart, stabbed in the face, decapitated, eaten, and has even shown the execution of a young girl. Talking about the rape of a man's family though? No no no, don't show that or people will be angry and write in to the sponsors. I'll never understand how people are okay with high levels of violence but draw the line at any kind of sexuality. Really seems backwards to me.

Right, I'm not saying changing the Carol character from comics to movies was a bad thing at all, and I enjoy this one much better. I just think, going off of the comic "look and feel", Carol should have been a younger actress with longer hair.

And Andrea should have been an early 20's actress.

Again, I enjoyed the actresses they chose in both cases, just cast a little off compared to the comics.

Abraham is a stretch, but that's just because I have the hardest time getting him from Mighty Ducks 3 out of my head each time I see him.

Dale was spot on in my opinion, and I really wish he would have been able to stick around.

I'm actually in full agreement with you. I have not enjoyed this season at all. The character development on this show is hit-or-miss, bordering on pathetic overall. I don't care about Beth, or Abraham, or even Eugene. It almost seems like they are trying to build up backstories of all these formerly minor characters so they can kill off a couple of the (higher-paid) mainstays like Daryl. I fully expect Daryl to be killed off by the end of Season 5, and for Beth to 'take his place', if you will, as the show's resident survivalist.

Sorry, in my opinion this show just isn't anywhere in the same conversation as shows like Breaking Bad, etc. anymore.

While I find this season not to be as good as previous seasons I still look forward to watching it every week...

I use the same measuring stick. I used to ache waiting for the next episode of Breaking Bad (not really, but you get my point). My wife has to remind me that Walking Dead is coming on.

I watched the first episode of Breaking Bad and never watched another. I refuse to. I guess it comes from the fact that my Uncle get heavily involved in meth making and made a real mess of things in the family.

While I thoroughly enjoyed Breaking Bad I don't ever care to go back and watch it. With Walking Dead I have watched each season at least twice. With Breaking Bad I felt like the final season was extremely hard to get through.

Obviously I am in the minority here, but I have tried to watch Breaking Bad a couple times, and never could get into it.

started to say this a couple of times and got side tracked...but, as far as the rape thing goes and them sort of side stepping it in the storylines...i wonder if it has anything to do with the amount of women that are higher ups in the production process...there have been quite a few different women on the Talking Dead as guests who were pretty high up on the food chain.

Just makes me wonder...

or they are building these characters up to kill them off to try and wring a bit more emotion out of it.

if they killed Daryl, they know their viewership will drop drastically as the fem viewers bounce out.

Honestly, Beth has annoyed me from the first time we met her. And their shoehorning in her singing into the show is killing me. Yeah, let's just play an instrument and sing when sound attracts zombies...

and those of you that didn't get into BB, don't blame you. I had a dedicated viewer that got me through season 1 to where I got hooked. but, I'm also a science teacher so I could relate to Walter White quite a bit.

I agree about Daryl, viewership would definitely noticeably drop. But yeah, they have been pushing Beth on us for a full 12-15 episodes now and I don't understand why. She's not a good actress.

Beth is most likely the greatest actress to ever walk this Earth...I nominate Abel from Sons Of Anarchy as the greatest actor. The two of them need to be in a movie together, it will win more awards than Titanic ever did.

This season has mostly been a politically-correct yawnfest IMO.

Go back to the grit of the first few seasons.

Really? Seeing a man get his throat cut in the opening scene of the season, a man threatening to kill an infant with a knife, the massacre at Terminus, watching Gareth and company eat Bob's leg, Rick and company hacking Gareth to pieces (in a church no less), Abraham beating a man to death in front of his family, Eugene watching Abraham and Rosita get down, seeing the remains of Abraham's ex-wife and children, and multiple instances of zombie death and destruction. I'm not saying your wrong but I'd say that this is still a really gritty show, about as gritty as you can get right now on TV.

Overall it's been a great season IMO. People wanna knock all of these character building episodes, but not every episode can be completely blood, guts and explosions. You have to take every episode and look at it as a whole season. This has easily been the best season in a while, even with the Beth and DC party episodes.

I agree with you in terms of the content this season, the have definitely been more graphic this season than in seasons of past. Heck, you didn't even mention the Beth episode where they used the wire to cut off the lady's arm, then when Beth used teh zombie lady to kill the police officer

Sure the backstory could have been more clear, but it gives you an insight on why these people do what they do. This season has been a far cry from season 2? where they spend the whole time looking for Sophia.

Consider we are in the fifth season of this show, when most shows start to show signs of getting stale or even jump the shark. I feel like this show is the rare case where it's only getting better and better from season to season. I feel like the showrunner and writers listen to the fans. You look at how poorly received the first half of Season Two was with how slow it moved, the second half came and it was huge moment after huge moment. People weren't big fans of the Terminus build up last year and bang, Season Five gets right to the point of Terminus and even destroys it first episode in. I love this show and it is something I am always looking forward to each weekend it's on.

^^This. There are not many other shows I have ever watched that I wait in anticipation for each week, almost counting down too.

Character development is just about the only reason I watch any show. Having said that, the character development on Walking Dead feels forced to me. I just can't make myself care about these characters anymore.

I know it's got to be difficult to try to develop characters in a large ensemble cast, but plenty of other shows have done it. Maybe it's just me, but I think Walking Dead does a poor job at it.

I really hate when they get split up like this. Makes the episodes so much harder to watch. The past 2 episodes were hard to get through, especially the last one.
