It seems like WSB meme stocks are hitting left and right. It works until it stops working, I guess.

That said, I’ve been using some of my crazy gains on meme stocks/spacs to build up some grandpa holdings. I’m now up to 120+ shares of high dividend stock Realty Income Corp (ticker O). I also always buy V on the dip.

See nothing that should have warranted it. Market clearly still in buy the dip mode

I was hoping someone else would have an answer to this... lol. I was up huge, then down quite a bit, and now I’m solidly positive again on the day. Not for the faint of heart!

I haven’t seen anything but intc getting trounced again plus you never know when certain algorithms get triggered.

China leader Xi basically said stay out of our business or else it's going to cause problems for you. A threat against the world essentially.

https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202101/1213926.shtml

"[Biden] has too many domestic problems… and I'm afraid that he has not figured out how to position himself in foreign policy and what he can say," Li Yong, deputy chairman of the Expert Committee of the China Association of International Trade, told the Global Times on Monday.

In the roughly 30-minute speech, Xi did not name the US once but made several pointed remarks about policies spearheaded by the US government over the past four years.

"The misguided approach of antagonism and confrontation, be it in the form of a Cold War, hot war, trade war or tech war, would eventually hurt all countries' interests," Xi said.

I see APRN shot up 25% today. I no longer hold it but hopefully Ballhawkdawk added to his gains on this one.

Hell of a flash dip in the morning. Wonder if it was just a volatility shakeout, option risk last week was pointing to something like this.

Got in on MA calls again, was sweating my GOOGL puts until the morning and took advantage to sell off.

They own enough of our treasuries to effectively sink the value of US debt. It would come at a cost to them also, but they could just manipulate their currency to absorb that problem. Nevermind whatever other problems they could make happen.

Intel is still the biggest chip maker in the US, right? How the hell do they consistently underperform? I don't get how bad the market hates them.

That was nuts. I didn't make any moves. My portfolio is sound for a one or two day event.

Newcomer to the stock market so I apologize if this has already been asked but are there any good sites you'd recommend for doing research?

It feels a bit like information overload and alphabet soup with all of the stock symbols so I've been mostly investing in companies I know (and I'm in the green a little bit so far so it could be worse). But I want to take some of the guess-work out of it if I can.

Thank you in advance.

I read Barron's. I like Investors Business Daily but I think it is expensive. I don't follow any of the tout sites. Some of the guys here do so they may be able to point you in a good direction.

You know, what you currently do " I've been mostly investing in companies I know", is a thing. It's called action-based investing. You invest in the stuff you are familiar with. It's a strategy, but it normally leads to owning a bunch of consumer staples and discretionary companies with not enough exposure to true growth.

Anyway, these guys should be able to put you in a better direction than I could.

I'll say this, I got the IBD digital for a 5 week trial for $5 and then went to cancel it and they offered another month long extension.

Definitely got way more than my $5 worth of info. I'm not sure what the exact monthly cost is after but it's worth the $5 for the trial.

Also, what trading platform do you use? Each one may offer different info to you.

Finviz is a good site as well. I'm not sure exactly what type of research you're looking for, but this site also has pretty good screening filters. Same that other brokers will offer as well, but it also comes with a chart and it bit more info that is right there on any ticker you type in.

Consistently losing market share. Zero innovation. Uncertainty imbedded into their guidance.

Yea, they were supposed to be a big part of EV AI but I don't think any of their projects competed vs. NVDA etc.

I hate this. I passed on the 5 week offer. Now I wish I hadn't. Makes me hate my hesitating that much more.

Thank you to both of you. It's very helpful.

JMarchand - Thank you, I'll look into Barron's. That's good to know I actually have some semblance of a strategy. I did notice that though with most of my investments thus far (I just sold stock in Home Depot and PayPal as an example) that they may rise a bit but there aren't the big jumps like some of you have had.

I guess I'm just a little nervous about losing my money until I can make enough to withdraw my initial investment and still have something from which to rebuild. I'm investing with extra money that I had saved but always nice to turn a profit, I guess.

Josh - Thank you for the info about IBD. I'll take a look at that one too and see if it would be worth a subscription. I'm on eTrade right now. They seem to have some solid info and screeners but it's just a lot to process.

I guess it would do me well to figure out what I'm really after as far as research and to read a glossary of stock terminology more closely so I'm not flying blind quite as much.

Don't concern yourself with the big jumps. Big jumps on companies like PYPL and HD really only happen around earnings. However, you will still be generally be in an ok spot to watch them steadily rise between earnings.

Big day Wednesday. Markets response to Aapl, good or bad, can set the course for the market for months.
