This is an interesting observation. I think this Ohtani thread has a lot of regular contributors that clearly are collectors and like posting new pick ups. Of course there are others on here that post a card on here and then I see it on Ebay.

I am guessing there is a difference in income/wealth of the "collectors" and others that tend to flip Ohtani cards for profit rather than using the funds for better Ohtani cards. I assume the average collector on the boards is a male between the ages of 30 and 50 and has sufficient funds to participate in the hobby without going into debt. I am sure their are outliers that don't have disposable income and have a gambling addiction to opening wax, breaks and collecting cards.

I guess I am fortunate I can collect what I want (within reason) and don't have to sell any of my Ohtani cards.

I am not worried about Ohtani or his hobby standing...but PCA may now be the front runner for NL MVP (I own zero PCA cards).

I am not joking. I didn't look up the Vegas odds, but after PCA having 2 HR today I am sure he will have a pretty big lead in both bWAR and fWAR (obviously his defense contributes to these totals).

No disrespect to PCA but he might not even be the best Cubs batter this year (at the present time).

PCA is leading by WAR and is a wonderful player. That said, you're going to need to do some crazy stuff to win an MVP with an OBP around .300 at the break.

4th fastest ever to 25-25 and the Cubs are in first and only .5 games behind the vaunted Dodgers. I think he will steal some votes, especially if Sho remains human.

Who do you think is the bigger threat to steal the MVP from the big 2 PCA over Ohtani or Cal Raleigh over Judge.

MVP tends to go to the best offensive player. PCA is having an amazing year but it's gonna be hard to beat the HR and R leader who is also striking dudes out. That said there's plenty of time left in the season. Even if Ohtani doesn't win MVP this year, I would not worry. Just want to see the Shotime experience in October!
