So the Padres contract wasn’t big?

It puzzles me that a lot of collectors/investors keep blaming the Padres for Soto not living up to the expected standards but maybe just maybe the problem lays with Soto and a second high dollar trade in a few years might not be the answer.

Statistically Soto isn’t having a bad season, we know his defense isn’t great so to rack up his war he needs to keep hitting the ball. The problem with Soto is that to justify his pricing he needs to do much better but I’m wondering how much better he can do and what offensive categories he needs to improve on to make his field accomplishment be on par with what the hobby thinks his card pricing should be at.

The answer is more traditional counting stats overall.
Higher BA, more XBH, more bombs.
Everyone knows how good his eye is and the walks help OPS and WAR immensely. To maintain his elite echelon hobby status he’ll need to show up more on the other leaderboards

One of the more interesting things I’ve noticed about this forum is that “who said it” is almost more important than “what was said” when establishing merit. Good advice can easily be dismissed due to perceived bias and a lot of crap can work it’s way into the narrative if the poster comes across as unbiased. People feel the need to post what cards they have before people take their point seriously or not. It’s just kind of funny.

Exactly, and yes, a "team" can destroy a player's ability. More precisely the coaches, with an emphasis on hitting coach.

Look at Chipper Jones, for example, the Braves hired Don Baylor and Chipper became an MVP. I would assume the exact opposite can happen.
