A little late to the party but was thinking the exact same thing. Comment section on this card is awful too. Saying he's had $30k+ cash offers. Thats my favorite comment from people on facebook trying to sell big cards. Some dude trying to sell an Elly red lava auto "over comps" said same thing and he posted it for like 2 straight weeks. Not sure if he ever sold it.

People love to try and maximize every sale. Not the worst to leave a little on top for the next guy to make. Think about whos the biggest winner. Rip a $25 blaster plus $175 to grade (hypothetically) $200 all in and sell for $30k and the next guy immediately flips it for his $44k, same price hes claiming on Wander. You make 29.8k and he makes 14k for his buying power and cashing you out. Not a bad deal for those parties. The sucker is at the end of the road not the beginning.

I’ll keep saying this: how many people have sold a card of this value?

Very few.

Dude is being dumb as hell but I don’t think it’s due to any other reason except he’s out of his league with a card like this…like 99.9% of the hobby would be.

Exactly. He obviously could use the money now. Let’s say he’s 25-30k in credit card debt, this wipes away not only the principle but all the interest he’s racked up for god knows how long as well!

Very easy to get yourself into a hole financially In this hobby

Anyone $25-30k in credit card debt should not be messing with baseball cards.

Is that common? Or am I that naive?

A lot more common than you’d like to think

I know a bunch of guys that get in over their heads. Hell there was a roofer 20 years ago that would come into lcs and buy case after case and rip nonstop. Late 90s/early 00s

He’s listening to advice from the wrong people.

But what’s new in this hobby. I say the Julio Sapphire purple auto is an $8-10k card and I get labeled a hater. This isn’t 2021 anymore. People need to get realistic with the true value of the items they are trying to sell.

He's trying to hard. Just wait until spring training and put it at auction with one of the big guys. That's all you have to do. You'll get what it's worth and you can move on.

I was the one who asked around for the value, I don’t think you’re too far off. I’m not a hater at all actually value your input! I was thinking 10-12k, can always negotiate down but never up that’s the issue!

I agree with most of the above. The one point I may differ on a tad is timing. If you don't think there are alot of people waiting "till spring" to list the big Julio they've been holding for 4-36 months for ultimate payoff you haven't been paying close attention. There's a reason that the spring run up as it's percieved has been ramping up earlier and earlier every year and I think its created more of a mid-January to mid march even leveled surge in pricing as opposed to the day players report everything doubles. There will be a glut of high end Jrod offerings in early to mid March that may supress prices a tad vs what is expected "when spring hits" IMO.

The going on twitter and explaining to everyone why this card is worth this or that or comparing to what other similar cards have sold for is unintentional arrogant sabatoge child's play and undoubtably detrimental to sales efforts. I'd argue that most of the knowledgeable people realistically in the market for this level of card may even consider it intellectually condescending.

“that’s all you have to do”

It’s not that easy. Guy posted he was going to send it to pwcc (not goldin) for March or April premier auction. You just don’t get a card to them a day or two before these things either.

Holding such a valuable asset, outside of your comfort zone financially, is not easy.

Dude is going to do fine with the card. It can be stressful trying to sell things of that value.

Again... As many have stated, he's trying too much and it is that easy. If you can't sell the card yourself, then give it to a professional who can. This isn't rocket science.

I’m sure he has multiple auction houses telling him this and that. You have to try to wade through the BS. There is story after story of people turning cards over to auction houses and getting bent over on sale price, timing, payout etc.

The bigger thing is that it hasn’t been that long. People are acting like it’s been months of guy trying to sell this card personally. I don’t even think it’s been a single month since guy pulled the card.

99 cent 10 day auction, start it on a Thursday evening, and let her rip. Easy peasy.

If this card can be sold on eBay, the JRod plat certainly can.

He’s devaluing the card with every single “for sale” post. He’s showing the high end buyers that the market isn’t there (over and over again).

If I ever pull an item $10k or more, I know who’s advice I’d be taking (several board members here)

Gotta have a solid group of people in your circle who can give you good advice based on experience and best outcome.

Exactly.

Curious to see what my poll results are (new thread) about selling a high dollar item. Everyone acting like they know what to do even though they’ve likely never done it.

Almost as good as giving a five figure price estimate for a card when they’ve never spent more than $1000 for one.

Step 1. Get card
Step 2. Ebay
Step 3. Profit?

Nope. eBay isn’t letting you sell a $50k card unless you have some history. I’m not even sure what that entails but I know I have a $30k limit and I have 1000+ feedback and thousands in sales last year.

Send to PWCC.
Take cash advance of ~half the value.
Spend it all
Sells at auction a month later for a LOT less than you thought.
PWCC comes after you for part of that advance you spent.

I don't know why we rip at all. Just a hassle waiting for you in that pack.

The joy of it just gets sucked out by the toxic investor mentality of maxing out… not that there’s anything wrong with that.
