So it continues. I believe it is safe to say that their graders got a directive about tightening things up and changing standards.

4 month wait. hit 40% gems on bulk of a card i heavily scrutinized. pop is 90% gems aside from this order and my previous order where i hit 66% gems on it. had always hit 80-90% gems on all orders.

probably the last time i will submit.

they are definitely calculating gem rates and purposely assigning a mix of grades rather than simply assigning grades that they think cards deserve.

That's the bigger problem in all this that I keep reading... because they haven't!

I have my oldest bulk sub stalled in QA2 purgatory right now... just waiting for the grades to pop so I can put on ship hold if need be and fight for a legitimate review.

Personally, I don't believe any of the talk about pop control, purposely not giving out all 10's, etc. They have a 2-grader on every card process. If I had to guess, they have too much business, too many new graders, and probably too many "I think it's this, you think it's that" debates going on and they just go with the lower opinion when in doubt. Just think about it like any debate in life... It's easy for Grader A to say, "well, I saw this specific thing that made me give it a 9" and for Grader B to say, "yeah, I see that now, okay, 9 it is"... versus having them debate the merits of why it should be a 10, and having Grader A win that debate when Grader B believes it to be a 9. Especially on what I imagine is now a staff bloated with many more less-experienced (albeit, qualified) graders!

For more than a decade now, I sub primarily new issue modern cards. I always sub with the approach of, "when in doubt, don't sub it". Historically speaking, I imagine I'm about an 85% gem rate overall. Clearly, I'm not perfect either, I do miss things even going over every card 3-4 times before deciding yes or no. I'm more fearful, with a bunch of new graders, they're going heavy on the approach, "when in doubt, 9 it is"!

yeah, this was my first attempt at buying Luka Optic. I didn't heavily scrutinize what Luka Optics look like prior to making a few purchases. So I bought 2-3 big lots of 10 Luka base listed as QTY without pictures of the cards.

Nearly every one of them came back with 70/30 or 80/20 centering...every...single...one. So...rather than passing all of the buck off to the next guy, I submitted the "best" of the O/C cards in this order and auctioned off the worst raw. I anticipated that the Lukas would be bad. The next few orders of Luka should be much better.

That card, along with Zion's Optic this year absolutely deserves a premium for gem. Those cards are horribly off centered. After cherry picking for a few months, gems are hard to come by.

I don't think there can be any other explanation. Not when it is happening across the board. There would be more variance if it was just new graders. It has to be some sort of policy or standards change.

Are we seeing it with bulk subs with the same card mostly?

My recent subs have been oddball cards and I felt like they were graded fairly, but they wouldn’t need to pop control my cards.

PSA check in times are getting quicker.

Sent single card orders in December and January and it took 2+ weeks. Had an order get there Tuesdays and it logged in today!

A little over a week ago, I spent a significant portion of my day going through nearly all eBay BIN listings for $55 or less, taking screen shots, measuring centering in photoshop... I bought 2! Two, literally, was all I could find with near perfect centering! They should arrive at PSA today!

LondonGames Member Join Date: Sep 2019 Posts: 1,131	4 month wait. hit 40% gems on bulk of a card i heavily scrutinized. pop is 90% gems aside from this order and my previous order where i hit 66% gems on it. had always hit 80-90% gems on all orders. probably the last time i will submit.
