I always ask myself one question when I see such sales: Does anyone benefit greatly from it?

Sure, it could be a wealthy collector who wants to add a high-end Ohtani card to their PC. But it could also be (and has been) someone sitting on a mountain of high-end Ohtani cards, and "sacrificing" some funds to record a high public sale, easily recouping and surpassing what they "sacrificed" with their now inflated values from the new "comp" (with or without the immediate "consolidation" efforts). Also, just to make things clear, no fingers are being pointed at Trueblue, I actually think Scott is one of the honest ones.

But we've seen a lot of funny business with basketball/football cards in the past and we're seeing some funny business with baseball (particularly Ohtani, not all of his cards but certainly some) cards right now.

As is the case with any card (rookie or not) of a given athlete, some cards are overvalued +/- being manipulated, some are appropriately valued and some are undervalued.

But like TBP always says, cards are for collecting and not investing.

anybody that dislikes bron does it for political reasons and not basketball imo

comparing ohtani to him is a huge compliment and anybody that says otherwise has an agenda

I'm glad we're all engaged in the Ohtani thread on a Friday morning/early afternoon!

Takeaways always seem to be that 1) There are three sides to every story, 2) No individual can control the hobby or "market", and 3) Things will always even-out and reveal itself at the end of the day - no need to die on a hill and be right today.

Let's see some cards!

LOL, their personalities couldn’t be further apart.

However, their fanbois seem to be cut from the same cloth and thus share similar hobby followings.

I see Ohtani fans as being similar to Curry fans, and their sports cards are valued as such.
