So far pretty good. I teach really early mornings on purpose to keep the numbers down because I don't use TAs. Given that, my numbers are respectable. I teach introductory level undergrad courses by choice, so many of my students are from outside our major/college, which is fine with me. I ran into one of my former students last week who stayed on to do a PhD and he is working on spacecraft propulsion systems. So I get to meet lots of interesting people.

So you prefer young, just out of high school kids that haven't learned the bad habits of a college upperclassman yet? And are also too young to drink (legally), so they don't have anything else to do early in the mornings (while the older students sleep off their hangovers).

Youngest came out of his game last night to check for a concussion. He headed a ball and said it was rock hard so they made him come off. He went through the questions (where are you, what month is it, who are you playing, spell blue backwards, etc) and he was fine and went back in the game. He was fine last night and this morning, said that he didn't think he had one yesterday but that the ball was hard as a rock.

FT JR got called out a few times at practice. They were working on double plays, running the bases, and run downs. Twice when he made a mistake, he smiled and the coach didn't like that. To me, better that he smiled, instead of getting dejected and then continuing to screw up like he usually does. He also had one run down where he failed to get out of the way quickly as the fielder and the coach went off on him. Coach was going off on a lot of the kids though. Other than that, he had an excellent practice. He did really well playing second base with knowing when to cover and turning double plays. It was hard to catch him in a rundown because his speed kept making the kids thrown the ball errantly to third.

He smiled when he messed up, so I think the coach took it as him not being serious during practice.

He also went off on a minute or two rant after a kid mumbled something under his breath after making a mistake in the run down drill. Coach was like when you mumble under your breath, I don't know what you are saying, so I hear i hate my coach. And then it turned into I hate my teacher when he mumbles at school and I hate my parents when I mumble at home. My wife and I found it quite amusing. Then another coach (who looks like a three year old girl throwing the ball from the mound to home plate) said the only appropriate answer back was "sorry coach."

When the coach points out mistakes you don’t smile back, you say “yes Coach” and correct it.

FT JR should be getting his shirt and hat at tonight's practice. I can't wait to see what number he is this season.

FT JR has shifted all of his teenage anger towards Mrs. Fulltritty now. After practice was over, the coach made the kids carry the equipment back to his truck from the field. FT JR grabbed one of the heavy equipment bags and Mrs. Fulltritty kept telling him that it looked too heavy for him and that he shouldn't do it after the next practice since he already carried it. He told her it was what you do on the team and after a big more of back and forth, he told her to shut up.

He's been real nasty in the morning too with breakfast and getting out for school. She called me this morning complaining about his attitude.

The numbers usually go up the larger the shirt size. I would assume you'd have to be really fat to get that number.

I'm curious where FT JR is going to play this season. He is doing a lot better in the infield than a lot of the other kids. He may finally get his wish to be an infielder.
