Timing is off for Sho rn. Hit a 114 mph screamer just foul and a warning track shot next pitch. It'll come, just needs to stay healthy.

Dodgers pen blew up and they let miggy Rojas mop up.

I am in the midst of consolidating my Ohtani collection so that I can pick up one bigger card to have, instead of a bunch of "smaller" ones. Hopefully I can eventually pick up something that I'll keep stashed away forever.

I did the first stage of that like a year ago. I’m now at the point where I can consolidate again on a larger scale or stick with the cards I have. I haven’t really decided yet.

What do you have your eye on?

I'm thinking a Bowman Chrome hitting auto. Although I would also love either a 2018 Topps Chrome Gold. But I think the Bowman has better long-term value.

Great choices either way. I know for me, if I was planning on holding, it would be the Gold Refractor. IMO the low numbered flagship parallels are becoming a little overlooked, and thus a potential value, with so much hype on autos… and I love Sho autos. If I was looking at a dealer display, both cards would draw my interest but the Gold would make me stop and think. The scarcity of such cards really gets me excited. This is reminiscent of the previous debate about what’s a better option, the Bowmans Best auto or the Clear /10.

Also food for thought, I’ve held enough BCA's of Mike Trout to know that the auto can absolutely fade and is a major consideration when buying one. Obviously it’s impossible to know the personal history of every card and the conditions it was kept, but the history of marker on Chromium is still relatively young. So it’s possible, that even with mindful storage of a Bowman Auto, it would still suffer some fade in, say, 20 years time.

I've had that same thought about chromium autos which is why I shifted away from them to the Heritage Real Ones.

There are a few red ink heritage autos that have already suffered awful fading. It all comes down to storage. Nothing to worry about regardless of chrome/paper if you put the card away in a slab case. It's the cards on PC display hit by sunlight and ones that travel to shows under bright florescents that get faded.

I was about to say this too. Seen a few Heritage’s online that look bad, unfortunately

I finally got around to taking some photos of my favorite cards. I tend to like cards that are unique, rare, and interesting. These cards are not necessarily the most expensive cards I own. Will also make a second post that highlights my better cards.

2018 Topps chrome sterling atomic refractor /150. Love this card because Ohtani is both pitching and hitting.

2018 Topps High Tek RT-SO /25. This card I think has to be held in hand to be appreciated. It has a galactic refractor pattern on the back.

2018 Bowman High Tek Pattern 8. This card has a print run of less than 20. I picked up a second one this off season.

2018 Stadium Club gold minted (PR around 75) and 2018 Topps chrome silver pack /50.

2018 Topps gold label /150, /99, /50. These cards are great in hand and love that Ohtani is both pitching and hitting.

Lastly I really like the 2018 Topps on demand M21 3-D insert hitting card. Reminds me of some of the early 90s cards I collected as a kid.

Such a shame. I know they didn't come out of the pack like this when you look at cards with serial #s in the same neighborhood.

Don't leave your cards out!

How it should look:

Great cards Sean! I love the rare High Teks, both Topps and Bowman. That Topps one is particularly appealing with a nice image. Sweet card

TB - exactly. Makes my heart ache.

The auto fade is my biggest concern about autographs in general. It won’t deter me at all from collecting them but it does give me a slight nagging concern every time I take them out to enjoy. Because enjoying your cards is what it’s all about to me. I have a PC player BCA rainbow and I can’t in good faith display it because how I know any extraneous light in the long term is likely bad for the marker .

I just take them out like Gollum, whisper sweet nothings, and stash them away again. I have other autos 25+ years old and they look the same as day one.

Have you seen any blue inks faded this badly? That's more in my wheelhouse

I have definitely seen some copies faded from light exposure, but the darker colored staedtler blue tends to hold up better. I guess the point is that nothing is immune from the elements regardless of pen or stock.

Edit: I'll add that the faded blues tend to lose the blueness/vibrance and look closer to black

I have seen faded Heritage blue inks. Not on a Shohei yet, thankfully, thinking about my eyes.

My blue ink Shohei only leaves its slab-case dungeon about 1-2 times a month when I gawk at it. I do try to keep from drooling on it and am mostly successful.

You’re likely better than me! The lovelies that I like to gaze upon, let’s just say I’m thankful they’re slabbed and sleeved

Curious if anyone has tracked low # '18 Ohtani autos in terms of what how many have NOT surfaced across the various brands with live autos still buried in packs/boxes. Talks of faded autos lead to dreams of opening a fresh 2018 pack and pulling one.

I will say that it wouldn't be the first (or last) shill attempt of a high-end card.
Just to follow-up, the same card is back on eBay (under COMC) for $19831.10.

The "nymetsrp86" eBay username can no longer be found and the guy's instagram page is no longer available (both could be searched and found when the auction originally ended). However, I did find their new eBay username (globalcardvault)

Safe to assume that the card was shilled? Sad times if so, but like we previously said, not the first nor last time.

For those buying high-end Ohtani though, be careful.
