Well at least if he buys 10k worth there should be at least a few PSA 10s in there

IMO this is very much like the 2002-2003 years where if you had the early cards it was a great opportunity to make a bunch of money. The market is very illiquid and the majority of the cards are in the hands of a few.

Markakis at $200 isnt any different at Tony Banks at $200.

Also just like with eTopps at some point this set will hit a price where it starts to look just a bit strange. Maybe that is tomorrow. Maybe that is when the released cards have a combined value of more than say the 1957 Topps set. Maybe that is when these cards cost more than a case of Transcendet along with all the perks that go with that set. Who knows when if you would have told me that a 2001 eTopps Tony Banks was once in the top 5 most expensive football cards...EVER I would have said you are crazy but I saw that happen.
I saw this happen too...but it costs Topps about $1M a year to store all the cards they still have (I was told this from a Topps executive...though I might have the $ value off a bit but it was shockingly high...and I was drinking at the time)...so your theory that they wanted to keep cards in port is off...they can’t get rid of them now, and believe me they want too. The cards are just there, un slabbed...I tried to get them not in cases but just sent to me raw...still $2 a card. Free shipping is keeping all these boats afloat.

If anything it's psychological. The "free shipping" language itself boosts sales in general lol. I see someone list something on ebay with $4.00 shipping I usually pass.

I remember the first day they launched this set and the shipping option was broken. People were ticked. Once they fixed it the money poured in.

Topps might have wanted them shipped but they did not set it up that way.

Like I said in my previous post you had a daily portfolio report of how much your portfolio went up and down if you remember.

They are their own worst enemy then. Don't set up a portfolio that is easy to transfer to one another and also give daily reports on how your cards are performing.

I was buying and sell a ton back in the day. Any card not in a portfolio was selling for half. I always wondered why people would take them in hand and sell them for less.

Maybe they learned with Topps Now etc...ship them asap lol.

For flagship/heritage/whatever, aside from the serial numbered cards, Topps can (in theory) print the base cards as much as they want, for as long as they want.
Topps cannot print (and sell) LS after initial release without jeopardizing their core customers.
Same way with Now, though limited to 24 hours...and much more limited. The parallels to eTopps are everywhere except free shipping. I think eTopps was just before it’s time. Now has more appeal to younger collectors who actually are very few and far between. This here grabbed us old guys attention with old stock cards and throwback design...it’s a hit.

For certain they learned...when they pitched this to the boss, the grumbling about eTopps was the first hurdle they had to cross...I still don’t see why they just don’t cut bait and send the cards to all that want them. I still have a portfolio by the way. 3681 cards valued at about $6k and they still want over $3k to ship them (even after wheeling and dealing with them)

This anticipation is just to see who gets released right? Because you all have a week to buy em.

Also anticipation to see print runs.

im guessing 24500 and 6300

I know it’s only one data point, and it’s one level removed from Topps direct sales, but Jake’s pre-sales for the two other cards are running at 10% of Acuna.

I’m interested in how that matches up with the actual numbers. I would assume it will over-represent the ratio for the “star” card each week (as someone buying all three is more likely to pick up a set directly from Topps)?

Any chance they would allow folks to pick them up? I have a ton locked away that I would never pay to have shipped. However, I would consider a road trip in order to pick the cards up in person.

Oh, I'm thinking 60K for Acuna.

Yes, always cool to see who is released. I would say the Hoskins week and the Altuve week have been the least exciting from a player perspective so far, even though looking back, week 2 was the one to get. They threw a bit of a curveball with Acuna -- so now we're all waiting to see what they do next.

Also, the PR's are huge in trying to determine what the previous prices are going to do. If there's a huge spike, expect even more craziness in the prices of the earlier sets.

Its funny to say Topps shot their wad too early in the Living set related to when they released the Ohtani, but good lord...could you imagine what an Ohtani PR would look like if it was this week's card? 100K?

No way this happens. It's been asked many many times...

If Acuna is in the neighborhood of 50K, I expect Hoskins and Ohtani to go higher, and I expect Hoskins and Ohtani to explode when they get hot on the field.

I like it this way -- leaves some room for the Ohtani to rise. I did say the same thing about Acuna last week though. Releasing him on his Debut day was huge. So far, I feel like Topps is doing this right. Just hope they don't screw it up at some point.

I guess it's a hell of a lot easier than selling 5000 to 2500 different people...

Agree... If commons hit 5500-6000

Watch a bigger spike on commons at 4000

martin bradley already at 60-80

gordon segura and pollack already doubled this week
