Out of 53 batted balls, he would have had 3 line drives to make 5.7%. 5 of 56 batted balls moves it to 8.9%. From 181st (of 182 qualified) all the way up to 179th. Mid pack line Line Drive% is ~21%.

Would need his 9 batted balls to be line drives to reach mid pack.

Hopefully by the All Star break these things sort themselves out.

I feel clearly at this point he didn't want to be in San Diego and is just going through the motions. Next year he's going to have that monster year to up his value going into his 2025 FA year.

There is no other explanation how such a great hitter has turned into what we are seeing now except for he isn't really trying. Once he hits NY or L.A. he's going to be a monster at ages 27-30.

I was one in here coming up with excuses for Juan’s poor play last year. It made sense he had a lot going on more than most young athletes will ever really have to deal with. But 2023 was the chance to come out strong and show that those were reasons for why he wasn’t hitting.
Now this year it’s no tatis, cold weather, the team, injuries (?), etc. and the above post. He’s just not happy in San Diego. He wasn’t happy in Washington right? Turned down 440 million bucks he was so unhappy. The excuses are really growing tired. Juan quite simply has no choice but to perform. LA or NY aren’t paying anywhere close to 400mm for this player. He’s not a special talent to build your team around. He’s walk first, hit into the ground power and that’s when he’s in the hole because he couldn’t stand up at the plate and take a walk by not swinging.
This is a very unfortunate turn of his career arch. We’ve seen it with belli and Correa and kris Bryant and yellich… juan is looking to be nothing more than one of these young guys that peak early and fall into an average player just as fast.

Put me down as disagreeing with rainmaker. And as a Mets fan, we would be getting off easy if the price tag is 400 mil.

Bowden on MLB radio this morning said no way Soto gets a $400m contract if he doesn’t start hitting and driving in runs. They talked about how he is too focused on walks.

I am hoping Soto has a girlfriend or needs one???....telling myself he is only 24 yo.
I think he is going to Philly to reunite with his favorite coach: Kevin Long. Season is very young.

He will go to philly - Harper has been courting him just like he did Trea Turner - the 3 amigos will once again be together for a decade.

I'm hoping this happens. Only catch is how to value Soto if he doesn't turn things around or has a good, not great, next 1.5 years (say, a lot of walks, but a .260 average or so). They might end up having to take a short term deal to build value.
