All of the fire departments I want to photograph next week in NC and SC have been contacted. I believe everyone has paid staff so someone should be at the stations.

I’ve been informed that the NC/SC border will be closed next week. We aren’t accepting anybody into the state.

Alright I'm kind of curious about this. It's not something you hear about people wanting to photograph. So maybe this has been discussed before previously. Is the success rate for approval high? If so approved , do you have to go thru background checks? Do you just photograph the trucks? If you get denied, what's the top reason why? Security issues?

It's a courtesy request to write ahead of time to paid fire departments as you know they will be staffed. Volunteer departments are hit and miss on staffing, so writing ahead of time and setting things up with them is essential. I also want to ensure that I won't be interrupting training or other duties. A lot of the departments in NC also send their staffed firefighters out to do fire inspections so they may not be at the station when you get there. It also helps in that they usually will ensure the trucks are washed and looking nice for the photographs. I usually photograph all of the apparatus at a station including the fire trucks, ambulances, chief cars, boats, and any other support vehicles they may have. The only time I've been denied is if the time or day isn't good for the department.

Firefighters usually love to show off their trucks; hence having parades. As an added incentive for allowing me to photograph them, I put up downloadable, copywrite free, versions of all the photos I take on my website so the fire department can use them however they like. I've had at least one of my photos used on a T-shirt sold by a department and manufacturers have used my photos on their websites and Facebook pages to promote their trucks and ambulances.

I already have 2 departments confirmed for Tuesday in NC. And for NN's BNut, one Chief actually responded "thank you for considering us for photos."

I had one of the members of our fire department call me last night that I am friends with. He is in his 60s and lost his wife about 2 years ago. He tells me he was talking to some lady on a dating site in Rhode Island for about 2 weeks. Then she started asking for money for her kid. He told her no since they never met and weren't actually dating ro anything else. She then got more aggresive and started demanding money. Again he told her no. She then threatened to start posting negative stuff about him on our department's Facebook site and have her friends do it too. IO started monitoring the site closely last night since he name for the woman or the friend she claimed was going to post so I couldn't preemptively block them. Sure enough the friend posts something so I deleted it and blocked her.

Since our state leadership doesn't use the revenue for the citizens, that's fine. Not like we get the benefits of all the extra people coming

At least he was smart enough to smell the scam.
