The most recent lebrons to grade bgs 8 were may 2013 (7 surface grade) and feb 2014.

It appears 3 graded bgs 7.5 with the most recent being 2008. No bgs 7 since 2008 also.

So at the very least the grades don't match up to the sent in back in 2014 and came back a bgs 7.5 unless i'm reading the bgs population reports incorrectly.

He later said it was a 7.5 or 8, he couldn’t remember exactly.

Is Sohrob in the hobby any longer?

That said, this is hardly the first case of mystery that he's been involved in within the hobby...just ask Enrico/verona.

Also to Chapman pretty amazing loyalty you got, guy.
Okay. I still haven’t gone to bed.

Okay. I’ve been humbled a little. But somebody help me out here. See jack’s message above. Then see this post from two years ago.

Like.... I just don’t understand. Somebody tell me how two years ago Eric bought it from some guy and now it was a 3 way trade?

And as JayConley pointed out, why is there a bonus for a 9.5 or 9 when he knew the card was damaged?

I feel like we know that Eric got the card from Sohrob. Sohrob got it from jack. Somebody explain how we know Eric was complicit? Walk me through this. Hopefully I will not see your answer till tomorrow. If I have a shred of self discipline....

He said he was fed those lines by “someone in the BNC camp” and went through with clearing Eric out of fear of being blackballed.

He means that he backtracked his statement originally (the one needChapmens dug up) because Eric or someone connected with Eric threatened him. I don’t think he meant physically. He offered that he was naive and “green” and thought that BNC could smear him and keep him from making connections in the hobby and getting the cards he wanted.

Well.... wow.

How do you digest that?

In other words.... when you have time, will you tell me what you think is happening here?

Edit - like from beginning to end. We got a little rough there in the middle. But I think you’re taking a pretty unbiased look at this. What do you think actually happened? Beginning to end.

A gold member just sent me sohrobs Twitter handle. I wrote him the following.

Hey man. You likely don’t remember me. We did a few smaller card deals back several years ago. Today on blowoutcards, a couple of your mutual card friends have been damaged from allegations of trimming a couple exquisite lebron rookies. It’s looking like you were the common denominator in this and your name has been included as a potential middle man. I don’t know if you’re in the hobby anymore but it would sure be helpful if you went to the thread and gave any clarification. It’s clear that the cards are trimmed. No one is debating that. The question is who trimmed them. You might hold the key here. https://www.blowoutforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=6

here’s hoping!

I think the fact that all 3 were in the loop on the bonus for a 9 or 9.5 grade knowing the damage to the card suggests all parties involved were well aware that the card would be trimmed. That is assuming the statements about the extra payment for a 9/9.5 are truthful.

I am sorry to say that I think your friend, Eric, isn’t being as forthcoming to you as you are hoping. Now, again, with all manners such as this, the truth will not fall 100% on either side. I have reason to believe the truth is far closer to what rookies is saying.

If you go back to the thread where Chapmans dug the rookies “smoking gun” statement up, you’ll see his original post was VERY much in line and consistent with his thesis here. Then, Eric showed up and he remembered differently. The sheer discrepancy in tone in the post Chapman dug up reads more like a hostage statement “like whoa you’re right I might not have even ever owned the card my bad dude”. That’s hyperbole, of course, but it’s a pretty drastic shift. It lines up to his mea culpa here.

The next question is why did he post it? Probably a mix of seller’s remorse and his resentment to BNC for not honoring (or loopholing) the 3k trade kicker. It’s a lot easier to stomach a renege on something like that when the card is “only” worth 20k as opposed to the 6 figures it is now. It’s faulty thinking but it’s easy to twist yourself into rationalizing that you were shorted near 6 figures on this card at this juncture. Again, that’s faulty. I hate blaming myself, too, so I’d probably blame BNC as well.

Also, don’t sleep on the fact rookies isn’t an angel here. He had an understanding the card would be altered (or overgraded because of who was submitting it), otherwise there wouldn’t have been incentives wrt the grade in the first place. That doesn’t make him evil, either. He was admittedly naive and malleable enough to believe considerable power could be levied against him even after the trade went down and he tried to tell about it in the Harden BGS 10 thread.

Here's my amateur Hollywood take on this...

Wild, wild story ahead.

Enter an online forum.

Three members of a notorious sportscard forum, hatch a plan to trim money. Wait...to make cards. No...to trim cards.

Jasper has a damaged, valuable James Leonard Exquisifractor rookie card, Steve can trim it as he has for multiple people, including Edgar In the past.

If the card gets trimmed and receives a better grade, then Steve and Edgar will cut Jasper a little skin in the game for his silence about the trimming.

The card gets trimmed by Steve and it grades better than it clearly was...Steve and Edgar are excited.

Jasper sees his old damaged card now sitting in a BGS slab wondering where his "cut" is and Steve or Edgar tells him to kick rocks.

Jasper gets mad and wants to out the fact that it's trimmed, blah blah after he realizes he's been stiffed on his cut.

Jasper makes a stink publicly, Edgar offers up his cut again if he issues a retraction of sorts. Jasper retracts and again gets left in the cold.

Jasper isn't proud of the entire plan or his original agreement, and even less proud that he got taken, so he's not too overly willing to stick in this conversation.

Three years later....

Steve is out fleecing people on silly ventures in scenic Manhattan Beach, occasionally trimming a few cards.

Edgar is still hunkering down with a newly trimmed cards.

Jasper never made it to the big-time in the scam business and manages a local hardware store, while moonlighting as a DJ.
....

Ok...so all of the above is a story. A made-up story where the names aren't actually associated with anyone specific real... regardless of similarity.

Now I just need to finish the last round of rewrites for the scrupt, get the leads casted and start shooting principal photography in February.

JayConley, thank you. I appreciate the time tha you took to explain what it seems like is going on. I need to do some more thinking, but I must admit that sounds likely. I still want Eric to share his side and I hope he does.

I’m going to bed though. Truly.
