I believe the Football card world, right now, is growing faster relative to Basketball, Baseball, and Soccer. Mahomes cards would benefit from this growth.
Alot of people in Basketball got burned with Zion hype and Baseball is a mess right now. Junk Slabs and Junk Gem Mints also a problem in Basketball and Baseball. Soccer is meh with its Mahomes-like, must-see, superstar Haaland not playing due to injury. Mahomes is someone you can believe in and is a role model. Sure, we can be critical of AFC game, but just one week before we were saying he played in the best divisional playoff game ever. Mahomes has high emotional intelligence, too. I don't worry about news of him doing something dumb on socials. He won't pull a Murray. So yeah, I'm not surprised card prices have not dropped much. Mahomes is easy to invest in. |

My two cents…Dealers (or whomever) saw the prices the last year and a half and see the possibility of what it may return too at some point, making it hard(er) to sell for current comps. Just guessing but the $4,200 would be aligned with such. Not sure of many who are in a hurry to sell Mahomes right now.

Gary Vee told the world football was not where money should be placed, it's basketball. Basketball suffered the largest losses in early 2021 (it also had the biggest run-up, potentially due to the Double G boys). The entire NFL market will benefit. Patty brought me to NFL cards, and it's got me buying other NFL players too. 112 million viewers vs 36 million viewers in terms of peak viewership for each sports biggest games, the NFL has more viewership, more revenue, more American interest, and more compelling young stars than the NBA.

I’ll also just throw in here that over the last couple weeks. I’ve still been getting bites on my eBay listings. For both Allen and Mahomes.
After they both lost last year it was no man’s land until at least the draft. Not the case in 2022 post SB month. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Cool. Well, hopefully you can snag one of the two they have in this week's Weekly auction.

Basketball had MJ Baseball had Jeter and Griffey Football had not yet had a collectable GOAT in the prime sports card era Sure, football had Montana, but by the time the football card market started expanding into the insert/game worn/auto years, Montana was with the Chiefs or retired. There are very few collectable Montana cards from his playing days. Favre, Young, Aikman, and a few others from that era were great, but nobody is anywhere near calling them the greatest to ever play. The closest thing we had was Rice and Barry, but or whatever reason, non-QBs just don't do. Now we have Brady. And people now understand just how high the football market can go. I don't expect any of these guys to ever hit Brady's level, but guys like Kobe and Curry never hit Jordan's level either, and look at their card markets.

The price swings we see in players that explode are real explosions. It took Bryce Harper 80 hot games in a row to move his needle 15% last year. It only took Cooper Kupp 6 hot games in November and December to launch his cards into 10x territory. Joe Burrow? Good grief some people made a ton of money and some people are set to lose a ton of money. This type of hobby excitement will keep football card flipping very exciting for years and years to come. |

Hi, very interested in knowing your rationale for why you believe football is not a long-term investment compared to the other two major sports?

Because there's been 10,000 football players and the average bo member could only name 100. 100 players value skyrocketing can never make up for the 9,900 card values dissolving into nothing. The top 1% of football cards are good investments. That leaves 99% bad investments. Another way of putting it: playing Russian roulette is a 50x better investment than football cards.

QBs? Yeah it's exciting. You can make a boat load (like burrow you mentioned) or lose your shirt on a Darnold or Watson if you bought high. There are blue chippers though that you really should be able to have confidence in as an investment to make it less of a crap shoot. I am trying to think of a name of one, but I can't quite put my finger on it. What thread is this? |

-Brady -Mahomes 1 is as ironclad as they come. Your case of guys coming and going like that only helps his case. The other one I believe is the next guy to transcend the sport (it's already been happening). And it I'm wrong, even more reason to be holding Brady.

Oh, no. Bieniemy's back on another one-year deal and they are searching for a QB coach. This is not good if I'm a KC/Mahomes fan. I really don't think they like each other.

I am confused, if he didn't have a contract, and they don't get along why in the world would they bring him back. Your right it doesn't make sense.

Either all the “EB is the problem” talk is simply not true and he is being scapegoated or the Chiefs are intent on wasting years of Mahomes prime.

As for a QB coach, I think they might bring back Nagy. |

I have to think Mahomes gets to call the shots at this point, and I don't see any way he would have approved of Bienemy coming back if he didn't want him there. Mahomes is literally with billions of dollars to the Chiefs. They would be absolute idiots if they went against his wishes.

Ichiro and Mahomes got me back into card collecting. When I jumped back in, I fell into the trap of trying to collect everyone at once. I wasted a lot of time. Today I've sold off a ton of stuff and primarily focus on: rare Ichiros, Soto rookies, Mahomes (haven't purchased much at all in the past year or so) and Jordan Poole (for kicks and grins.)
I'm def a Mahomes homer who lives in KC and while I'd like to think he could be the next Brady....no one is gonna beat him. I do think NFL can be a good choice...but as stated above it's primarily QBs etc. I think for stability MLB is where it's at. It's not dependent on rings / championship etc, but pure stats. Even the NBA is obsessed to a point with rings etc. Baseball is just individual stats...and I love that now. NFL and NBA = Day trading MLB = Mutual Funds
