If Texas hadn’t beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa then I could see Bama ahead of Texas but Texas went on the road and took care of business.

What teams were ranked at the time they played doesn’t matter. You don’t want to go down that path, otherwise Alabama looks even worse by losing at home by double digits to a team not even in the top 10.

If you mean that game from 15 years ago, it was very impressive to see an FCS team beat Michigan in the Big House. That aside, Michigan was not a top 10 caliber school that year despite what their ranking was prior to that game.

The top 4 get a bye. The next 4 get a home (on campus) game. So that’s why I say seeding will be important.
