Best case scenario is we trade for Luzardo/Cease + add Shota. That way we have serious depth and can move Houck + Crawford to the pen. Not an elite rotation but a nice blend of young upside arms and innings eaters.

I'd be happy going into the season with Houck and Crawford as 4/5 starters. I've seen enough to think they are fine as back end rotation on a playoff team. Apparently Lou Merloni thinks Crawford could be the closer once Jansen is traded. Personally I'd try Whitlock as closer first and hope he can stay healthy. It sounds like they are interested in Luzardo but that will probably cost Mayer or Anthony and it sounds like they are prepared to trade one or both if they can get young pitching that is under control for cheaper contracts.

Yeah I saw that, the write up on Yoshi is b everything we have talked about in this thread that basically he has little value right now especially with the back end of that contract.

I thought Sale had no value with his contract and injury history. They will probably have to eat some of the Yoshida contract to trade him but they seem willing to do that. I'd rather they trade Yoshi then Duran who I heard they were shopping earlier in the office season. But Duran might be a good sell high candidate right now.

Sox apparently very aggressively pursuing Jorge Soler. Not very exciting but he fits the Renfroe/Duvall spot and could provide some good power in Fenway

Sox are one of Mike Clevinger's preferred destinations. He has a lot of baggage but he'd probably be the #1 in their rotation

Probably not as good of a defender as Duvall but more durable. If he stays healthy he could probably have a chance at 40-50 HR playing home games in Fenway. I don't think he makes them a playoff team but he would make the season more enjoyable. Casas-Soler-Devers in the lineup would be fun.

Assuming Marcelo Mayer is only a year or two away, I'd like to see Boston trade Story sooner than later. They should get what they can for Jansen now, too.
If they trade Yoshida, I could see that haunting the team big time down the line. Not only could I see Masa bouncing back in a major way this season but why would any Japanese player want to sign with a team that didn't give one of their own a fair chance? |

As for Japanese players. They have missed on all of them this off season already but the Sox do have a track record with Daisuke, Okajima, Uhera etc so I don't think trading Yoshi will effect anything. At the end of the day it's about money and this team seems like they aren't willing to spend any in the near future so they won't get any top free agents. It seems like they are ready to do a full rebuild right now |

Sox announced they are not doing the Winter Weekend Town Hall this year. Ownership and front office doesn't want to get booed again

Don't hold your breath. Sam Kennedy said yesterday that the Sox payroll for 2024 will be lower then 2023. He was also talking about how fans will go to the game for the Fenway experience regardless of the team. It's pretty clear they have no intention of trying to win this year

On a happier note, fun chat with Papi, Pedro and Tek this morning on twitter, HERE.
Paid tribute to Wakes. Reminisced about 2004 ... 20 year anniversary, damn.

This is going to be another tough year. Breslow is not off to the best start here!

It sounds like the rotation is going to be Giolito, Bello and then some combination of Houck, Whitlock, Cooper Criswell, Pivetta and Crawford. So basically the same plan as last year.

Paxton going to Dodgers for 1 years $12 million. So even he's too expensive to bring back, although I'm sure the Sox would have to offer more then the Dodgers.
