Honestly I doubt think Boston had a chance. It was the Dodgers or a New York team was signing him.

I didn't watch a full game on TV last year (even Bello starts) and it's looking like more of the same this year.

But why? They were in contention for the first half and had lots of fun players to watch even after that.

I still enjoy watching every game or at least listening to them.

I know everyone says Sox can't go through a real rebuild period but now is the time to do it. Getting rid of Verdugo was a good start. I've heard they are shopping Duran which I don't love but apparently Yoshida is untradable right now. I'll be fine if they trade all the veterans who have value and do a short rebuild like 2-3 seasons of being bad if it sets them up to contend down the line. Right now they easily have the worst roster in the division so they are probably going to lose for the next couple of years even if they are trying to win

Sox apparently showing strong interest in bringing back Paxton. And also trying to sign Teoscar Hernandez who I've heard has been one of their prime free agent targets going into the off season. So probably more of the same type of moves as the last couple of years

I caught portions of games here and there or listed to games on the radio, but just no desire to watch or listen to the terrible product they're putting out there for a full game.

Teoscar is fine. Strikes out too much but we need the RH power bat. I wouldn’t mind him.

That said, Paxton is a hard pass. Can we for once not sign bargain basement starters? Who else is done with the Klubers, Garrett Richards, Paxtons, etc. Go out and sign Montgomery and trade for an arm please Breslow. It’s really not that hard an assignment. We need 2 SPs, a glove 1st 2nd Baseman and a Power hitting RH hitter.

Teoscar is fine but he's just the next Duvall/Renfroe. Just recycling whoever they can get for a year or two at a good bargain. I don't know if it's ownership not wanting to spend money or free agents not wanting to go there but it seems like the Sox haven't been players for top free agents in years. I don't think they can even get Montgomery unless they overpay like they did with Yoshida. They'll have to pay Montgomery like a #1 and I don't think that makes them much better

Seems like the same plan as the last couple of years just different names. Try to find cheap guys who they think are undervalued and hope they get career years and good chemistry from everyone.

2.) Brandon Drury
3.) Jordan Montgomery
4.) Lucas Giolito

Trade for:
1.) Jesus Luzardo or Edward Cabrera

All I want is a baseball season. It sucks having no hope. At least give me the illusion of contention. I want September baseball. This list is so underwhelming for the Red Sox yet it feels like Mt Everest with this ownership group.

Two years with an opt out after the first year. It's definitely an upgrade but they probably need one more legit starter to compete unless they can count on Sale being healthy

Well I've been here saying trade Sale (and Story, Yoshida) for whatever they can get. But trading Sale the day after signing Giolito doesn't make sense. But either way I'm happy with the return they got for Sale
