Notice this has no links to prove it. You cannot ship a large board game that weighs 4 pounds across the street for 5.35.

The boardgame box ships as a large flat rate box.

This i a 4.5 ounce package being shipped to my zip code from my zip code.

Just checked on Ebay a 4lb 5 ounce package from here to Pennsylvania is 14.33 after the Ebay discount

So if anyone believes you their buyers are going to be upset.

The Ebay price with discount is 6.78. You get the same rate on Ebay as the USPS site is for online.

Postage Price Calculator

Same package going from me to California is 15.22 online price and 17.80 at the Post Office

If its the same as a large flat rate, then weight and destination wont matter. Its flat rate. That being said, i have never seen a large flat rate box cost 5.35...

Shipping for me is cheaper on ebay with discounts than when i ship using usps.com. Flat rate bubble is 5.35 thru ebay, and5.70 on usps.com. ( just as an example)

So at this point, would parcel post be cheaper? Or is there a chance it may fit in a regional?

very few board games are 4 pounds.

The two examples I have are a transformers chess set for $12.35 and a Pokémon board game for $10.53. In both situations the flat rate game box is higher.

Is that for good or just during the free listings?

tend to always pick up nice unique ties if i can get them for 1.00 or less each. Even the lesser brands are good easy sells in the 10.00 range.

Picked up a few VHS tapes today for .25 cents each. I am starting to find these to be great fodder items as well when I can get them for less than 1.00. They may sit a while, but everyone I sell makes at least 4 to 8.00 each(found one that coul make about 80.00). I have about 30 listed right now and sell about one a day on average. They are easy to list, so no reason I cannot end up with several hundred lited quickly.

True, I think you both are sort of making an argument that doesn't quite hold water. The game boxes are great for when you have a super heavy game or anything that is long in shape. For the most part though, that's rarely going to happen.

I'm still at the point where taking 5 minutes to make a frankenbox is worth saving $3 or more. There might come a time where that is not true. The other guy is underselling the actual cost but he might be quoting an amount for a particularly light game or shipping within zone.

I just chimed in because, other than the bubble mailers (only for over 13 oz), flat rate usually is a bad move. You really need to have something that weighs enough to get value out of it.

That being said, I sometimes will craft an auction to get value from a flat rate box. If I have two like items that will fit, then I can offer a better value to my customers.

I'm selling a couple boxes of stuff for my neighbor. There are a bunch of vintage games that really don't make any sense to sell one by one, but they're upwards of 50 years old. So I figured I'd see how many will fit in the game box and make a nice value lot out of it.

Moral of the story, be smart with shipping. I wasted money going to the post office, not using flat rate bubbles, using other flat rate boxes when I didn't need to, etc.

The feature will eventually vanish. I was offered the free three relists back in the spring. As I began to sell more that feature is no longer available to me. I only list during free listings. I have not had the free relist since probably May.

I asked eBay and was told it was used to encourage members to begin selling.

I have gotten dinged and even had a neg left for using a frankenbox. So sometimes that extra time is not worth it. Also I average 25 to 30 items being shipped a day now so I have to consider the time issue. From my experience most board games average 3 to 4 pounds and tend to always sell to the East coast in those cases the LFRB is the way to go. I used one yesterday to ship 3 NIB action figures going to the East Coast would have cost 50 cents less to make a frankenbox than use it so it just was not worth it. Shipping costs are tax deductible in the end.

I mentioned that myself regarding time. Making the argument that shipping costs are tax deductible is a little dangerous. People don't quite understand what that means.

If you're able to reduce your income by $10 because of $10 in expenses, whatever that might be. You still have actual costs of 7.20 (assuming most of us are right in that 28% tax bracket).

If I save $4 for 5 minutes of work. I'll only really save 2.88. This however is still over $30 an hour after federal taxes are considered. Of course there are opportunity costs as well. If you could save an hour a day and use that hour to source items that you would make hundreds of dollars on then that's a bad use of time.

I'm not saying you don't understand this, but it's something that most don't understand. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer is talking about write offs.

Most of the people here are not high volume sellers, that's usually how I craft the advice I give on this thread. If you're high volume, you've figured out a lot of the other options that make sense for you.

I just have a pet peeve about business platitudes. They just make people less educated when they hear them.

I think at this point most of us have stores open and get our free listings per month. I get 150.

Went out garage saling this morning was a pretty sad day. Picked up a new unopened Nintendo Monopoly board game and added several more VHS horror film and a few unopened ones to my stockpile that should eventually net a nice return.
