His performance and health next year will be pivotal to a certain extent. There are going to be a lot more ways for his cards to dip than rise.

We also all thought 2024 was going to be a buying year with Sho being limited to DH and recovering from surgery with a less than ideal Dodger rotation.

the good stuff will always be the good stuff.

the mid stuff? yea that can go both ways at anytime

the low stuff in PSA 10 form? can also go both ways, but steady is pretty predictable

just remember that The Mayor has an amazing collection that is not going anywhere

Last time I checked there weren't any other 3 time MVP, WS winners out there (of active players). Ohtani is on top of the mountain. Even if he does not have an MVP year, his demand should keep on rising based on his past accolades and as he accumulates more stats and WAR.

Unless he is injured all year, I don't see demand really going down. And the Dodgers should be WS contenders for the foreseeable future.

In your opinion what scenario is going to drive demand and prices down other than a year long injury? Even in this case this would be short term.

I am a long term collector. At this point in time Ohtani is the baseball hobby king and likely to stay this way going forward. Even if Mike Trout were to win a WS or Judge was to win another MVP or WS, I still see Ohtani as having the most short term and long term demand.

I love how in every hobby there’s always high roller collectors with nicknames that are known for hoarding high end and never selling. In Original Comic Art, there’s a guy known as the vacuum and once it’s in his collection, it’s gone.

I don’t pay too much attention to the low-end Ohtani market. I do think it’s interesting that PSA 10 #700 and PSA 10 TC 150 are essentially the same price now.

Overall, it seems to me like people that can only collect in the low-end space are not biting at all. I’ve seen this when selling too. Most of the items I have listed are low-end. I get watchers (no offers) on ESE listings for $2.29.

An example from the buying side, fully 30 people looked at this card before I found it and smashed the BIN.

No denying it’s not the most attractive color. Since it’s Sapphire, think of it as amethyst

I couldn’t pass on it for $33.

You don’t think starting as a pitcher on the reigning World Series champs and odds on favorites in the upcoming year will boost his stock yet again? He is already legendary, on the verge of one of the all time greats.

With a team that signed a 2x cy young award winner in the off season after winning the World Series and not losing any significant piece. Not saying the Dodgers will repeat…we know how tough that is nowdays…but they have the best lineup in baseball, possibly the best bench in baseball, and maybe the best starting staff in baseball too..at least on paper. Just for argument sake, say he hits 35hr bats .290, and starts 15 games plus playoffs.

The man still has legs I believe. While injury will knock him down, his very high floor has already been set.

My last 2024 eagle has landed. Been wanting a "base" one of these for a while.

My one and only box of Sho's 50/50 Topps arrived today. There was no chance I was going to sell nor sit on it unopened although I tried to convince myself either of those was actually an option.

Among the commons were 2 standard refractors and a gold refractor /50

Everything you just said is already baked into the prices. It already showed when they won the WS and he won the MVP and his overall market didn't climb shortly after, it actually flattened and even dropped.

His floor will always be high but never set. That goes for all players.

"We keep thinking we’ve seen the best of us, and then humanity throws us another curveball. There will never be another Sinatra, but then along come Elvis and Elton John and Prince and Taylor Swift. No one could ever match Olivier, but Brando and DeNiro and Streep and Denzel suggest otherwise. And, of course, there is only one Babe Ruth.

Who, hard as it may be to believe, is being left behind by Shohei Ohtani."

I'm not comfortable with your walls and ceiling being a different color.
