Shohei with Dad power

2022 and 2023 Cosmic had an early 90's skybox basketball thing going on that just didn't hit right with me. But with 2024 Cosmic, in my opinion, they nailed it. The inserts in this set give me that late 90's metal universe/EX2000 star date vibe. This set checks a lot of boxes for me. Collecting is fun!

Speaking of that orange, did any of you big spenders win anything yesterday at Goldin? That transcendent super auto for a quarter mil was a pretty good show. I believe the original purchase price was $5K range in 2019 by OP.

I’m a little surprised by the massive gap between the TC Orange and the Bowman Orange. I know the Bowman has slightly better grades, but the TC uses a hitting photo. I could understand a little price gap, but this seems huge. Is there something I’m missing?

Bowman pitching has the nicer pre-TJ auto, don't know how many people care about that though.

I care about the auto. I'll also add that the TC orange 9.5 had a visible top left white corner ding. It's a BGS special "Gem Mint" card, aka PSA 8/9. That had to scare away some people that actually pay attention.

All that said, BCA is king. Base BCA is about 2x a TC in same grade so the price variance when considering the lesser subs and white corner isn't completely out of wack.

Hit up a local card shop while I was visiting family for Christmas. Was really hoping to find a Clemente I'm missing or a T206 HOFer but I settled for this Ohtani instead:

The hobby has certainly spoken, given the value gaps between TC and BC. I think the BC auto looks messier than the TC auto, but that’s very subjective.

Seems like low end RC are ticking up in price. I am wondering if it is holiday demand or if general demand is already going up?

Anyone else thinking we are seeing a new floor with low end and mid end RC cards?

Anyone have any predictions of what this year will be like for Ohtani and his RC cards?

My thinking is he will be an 8-10 WAR player this year if healthy. I think pitching wise is will take some time for him to regain his command, but overall with be a top 25 starting pitcher and worth 3 or more WAR. I think he will have a great year at the plate, but not as good as last year. Something like .285 avg, .980 OPS, 45 HR, 25 SB. And overall I think he win another MVP is healthy and I expect the Dodgers to make the playoffs and get back to the WS.

Not sure what this type of season would mean for his card prices. At this point 3 MVP's, WS win, two way unicorn, best player of his generation, and future HOF are already baked into his prices. Another MVP or two is going to put him into inner circle HOF status despite not having historic counting stats.

Again super excited to enjoy the ride! Been picking up some cards here and there when I find the right deal.

I think his prices still have room to go up. Once he actually hits the "typical" HOF WAR thresholds the slow pokes out there will want to catch up.

Part of the reason I pulled the trigger on the Heritage real one auto earlier this month is that I don't see being able to buy that card in a 9.5+ for much longer for less than 5 figures.

Also, ultra high-end ($30K+) is shifting into another gear. Those cards are setting higher all-time highs every week now. The big boys are coming out to bid and it's clearly showing.

I hope demand for all Ohtani RC cards keeps on going up and up! I imagine ultra high end will at some point reach crazy highs (beyond Covid Mike Trout levels). When this happens I expect a bump in all RC cards (with base and PSA10 base leveling out).
