They shoulda locked him up a month ago on a long term deal. If he keeps this up and finishes the season this strong, it's gunna be crazy money.

He's hitting the ball better overall this year than his MVP season. If it weren't for Acuna going berserk, Belli would be the top NL bat, and he'll easily be the top NL free agent.

Great job by the Cubs (& Bellinger). Low risk/high reward. Both entities won with the contract he signed.

Cody really bet on himself that he could resurrect his career in 1 season. He had to have had thoughts that it might be over at some point the past 2 years during his slump. It was really bad.

But now he's looking unbeatable. Pitchers pitching around him like crazy the past couple weeks. Looking like Soto 20-21.

I have always like Belli, I still can't understand why in the offseason after his MVP year he was totally revamping his swing. Glad he did something this past offseason.

Like a golfer...totally mental. People always tinkering, thinking they need to change things up. Not enough of the right people in your head.

I think the injuries also played a big part of the mental game (not unique perspective to just me). If you can't twist and explode off your leg like you've done your whole life, it's going to mess with your head big time.

Especially for Cody since he's so slim, he needs to use every bit of natural motion. And it's great seeing it come back this year. That swing is just so sweet when it's on. Josh Hamilton and Griffey also had naturally butter sweet swings when they're on.

Unfortunately he's a Boras client and Boras always lets his guys go to Free Agency.

I just realized. If Boras was a card collector, he would always auction his cards off and never do Buy it Now. He likes to get people bidding against each other.

Bellinger may lead the Cubs into the playoffs, but with all the games missed and even more so with how Acuna has performed, Cody will not be the MVP. I do believe the Cubs have a upper hand in having him sign long term and at his age, it’s a great bonus for both sides.

As far as Bellinger continuing to perform. Tried finding a stretch where Barry Bonds was able to have 13 consecutive Plate Appearances while only making 1 out. That is something Ted Williams may have done but it’s rare to reach base 12 times in 13 straight plate appearances.

He also suffered a major shoulder injury which was the big reason his numbers took a dive.

I mean why would he sign a long term deal when his value is at his lowest. He signed a one year deal hoping he did exactly this and that he would get his long term bag this offseason.

baseball reference has him making $12.5 million this year, but all other sites have it at $17.5 million. First time I've seen baseball reference have something incorrect.

He might not be in it for MVP, But he could still steal the batting title.

They have it correct at $17.5 in the bio, just not down in the stat line.

Went to SPOTRAC.com. Was wrong. 12 Million though he signed a 1 year contract for 2024. I believe his time of service for Arbitration 4 allowed him 5.5 million for both seasons, earning 17.5 million in 23 and 24. The extra 5.5 goes to luxury tax if I’m not mistaken.

It's a $12.5M contract with a mutual option of $25M for 2024, which has a buyout of $5, which is where you get to $17.5M

He's 42 points behind Arraez.

He keeps hitting at the .416 rate he has the last 40 games he is going to end up over .360 for the season. He has raised his average 80 points in that time frame. Not that he will continue that pace (.414 BAbip). Then again nobody thought he would be hitting as well as he has this year.

Was just looking at the leaders in the difference between batting average and expected batting average and Cody is at the top with a difference of like 55 points, so I would expect his average to come back down...but then this type of thing can certainly sustain for a 50 game sample.

First 9 games Cody was 6 for 34 .177 BA. Then the thread came shortly out about his demise of card pricing.

I don't think he'd win MVP over Acuna, Freeman or Arraez, however, he's locked solidly in 4th place right now, and the contact he's making on the ball consistently since returning from injury is the best stretch of his career.
