I wouldn't live in PA if I had a choice and I was born and raised here.

Not in your question I will say that I assumed but why did you bring up the education and std stuff not exactly what as I was expecting.

What’s funny is I grew up on Staten Island New York and based on what my friends tell me you couldn’t pay me to go back there. I actually like living in Mississippi as I am away from the crowded areas and although the inner city is not the safest I rarely go there so I am good.

They are statistics that are interesting when compared to one another. It has nothing to do with people on an individual level but issues as a whole. It often means things like education and family planning are underfunded. Where those things are underfunded, you also see a rise in poverty. It all goes hand in hand. I follow these things because when you work in the unhoused field, you have to stay up to date on these trends. It may not seem like it but my area gets a lot of people from outside areas that come here to start over and often end up unhoused with no family supports in the area. They get stuck here. For example, 4 years ago we saw a huge influx of people from South Carolina. I couldn't figure out why someone would leave a warm climate to come here in the dead of winter. I started talking to people and deep diving with them. It was because they got paid so much more here. They didn't realize the housing costs were also much higher. They had plans to work here, save up money and go home. I only ended up sending one guy back via the train. We found funds for him to go home. Everyone else decided to stay. Some are in jail now, others still homeless. Some landed on their feet.

I love PA, but would move if that was in the cards for me.

When I was considering grad school, Colorado was one area I took a hard look at. My wife and I had some long conversations about moving to Maine and I had some interviews up there. Just never felt right and we abandoned the idea about 5 years ago.

Where would you like to live?

There is also a huge rise in syphilis. We are seeing it here in PA and its is everywhere. If we know these things are happening, we can be proactive and help people get the medical treatment they need. It is very treatable when caught early. The unhoused community is often the last to get treatments for things. COVID was a prime example of that. We had to fight endlessly to get port a pots put in throughout the city during the huge shut down. Then, we had to fight for COVID hotel where people could go to get better. Then, we had to fight to get vaccines available for them at locations they frequented.

Maybe it is just where I am at now. Moved here when I was 4 from Western PA. There are some breathtaking parts of the state. I'd love some place with land, a pond, inlaw quarters and a little farm.

I think every state other than Ohio has something wonderful to offer. Ohio sucks.

The problem with the Capital Jackson is that it seems our congressman have no interest in making the city safer and better. A lot of businesses left because of the crime and how unsafe it was. The roads are pothole city and the water in most areas is undrinkable. It’s not that they don’t have the money but it is going into the corrupt congress pocket. As far as education and std’s they go hand in hand. I don’t think schools spend enough time nor money teaching these students safe sex methods or abstinence. There are some really nice schools in certain areas like Flowood and Pearl and Madison county but In Jackson the schools are run down and I couldn’t tell you about the teachers but obviously somewhere in Mississippi there is a breakdown. As far as homeless people I don’t really notice it and there are a few homeless shelters that help out. As far as people coming here from other areas that is not happening with the reputation this state has already. One there aren’t any well paying jobs due to the crime and the weather isn’t exactly ideal in the summer. When I first moved here in 2000 it wasn’t this bad and the city actually had a pulse. A few bad mayors and it is what it is. Sorry my response is this long but it’s not a subject I can answer in short. Talk to you later Josie and if there’s anything you want to know about where I live just pm me I have no secrets.

Do you live on a large plot of land? It seems like you do from some of the descriptions. I always wanted some wooded acres of land. I love being out in nature. It must be very different going from such a condensed environment to so much open space. How is the star gazing in your area?

Long answers are often better for understanding and perspective. It is really sad to see what corruption and a few bad folks in leadership roles can do to communities. There is an area close by me that is right on the river. They could have really capitalized on that but sadly it has the worst school district and terrible poverty rate. I feel like Mississippi has great potential to build up their tourism industry. People want to stay in small towns and explore areas that have charm. Bring back local store fronts and cute mom and pop shops.

Have a great evening, Spuds.

The kids stay up later than me now. I wish they were ready for bed.

Yes we have a huge yard and decent sized house. We use to have 100’acres of land but we sold 60 of them when my wife’s mother passed away as the offer was too good and still left us 40 acres. The night sky is wonderful and there are a lot of deer that are in the woods by us. The houses are really far apart but we have neighbors across the street that look out for us and we look out for them. Plus my wife has lots of friends from the church and her job that would help us if we needed it.

Maybe you could teach the deer to eat apples right out of your hands! That is a dream of mine. That sounds like an ideal setting. People looking out for one another is the only way this country is going to survive. We all need to start doing that more.

I really need to take an entire weekend and organize things. I sorta want to take a week off work to just organize and decide what I want to send to COMC and put the rest on craigslist as a collection for sale. I already know what I want to keep. Every time I take time off work though, I end up helping my mom with stuff. I don't mind, I love the projects we do together. Just leaves very little time for some of the things I want to get done.

I am really hoping when Mr JD graduates grad school, he gets a pretty decent paying job, and I can go part time again. I am hoping to only have to work 15-20 hours a week.

I thought I was doing good getting the 2 feral cats to actually let me pet them. I have gotten close to some of the deer but I don’t think I will ever get close enough to have them eating out of my hand.

That is impressive! Feral cats often trust very few people.

I am getting better at organizing but that is because I have the time now that I am pretty much retired but if I got a decent offer I would sell most of my cards as I still have a bunch of tubs in storage.

Ohio does suck. Not a fan of most of MI or really anything to do with NY.

My M-I-L is from MI. They have one of the best Greek restaurants I have ever been to in Detroit. It is terrible what happened to their housing market. The crash hit them so hard, I don't think there is a bounce back from that. NY has some really beautiful areas, too. A lot of congested areas as well. I really want to visit places with lots and lots of space.
