Heritage dropped the ball on that border, reminds me of those Magic Eye 3D pictures from school where if you stare at it long enough, you can faintly make out Aaron Judge's name and Topps Certified Autograph Issue from the giraffe skin.

I do. And Archives just chose a better year to model the FFA after than Heritage did. 1983 Topps looks so much cleaner and has much greater eye appeal than 1968 Topps. Just my opinion though.

You have never seen a baseball card prior to the 1990's have you?

Sure. I love most years, 1968 Topps is my least favorite. I love 1983 Topps. Hence why I favor the Archives FFA over the Heritage, even though I own several of both. It's okay to own a card yet still criticize it. I love my Lebron Topps Chrome rookie card but I hate the design. And that's okay.

That was a red. Looks like this would be the highest/most recent sale/bin just hit.

I know Heritage gets the love, but the 1987 series 1 auto is so freaking awesome.

I feel like some people dont really have a point to make, but argue in circles to be right... probably lots of practice with their little brothers and sisters

Agreed. The 87 Auto is just a stunning card. I remember when I first saw 1987 Topps, just a classic desigN. Topps did an amazing job with the Archives, Heritage and 87 cards.

I ultimately decided on a Heritage because after breaking several boxes the set really appeals to me. It's a great bridge product for folks like me that are all vintage. Archives was a close secong for me speaking from an overall product standpoint. At first it was the much more fun break until I learned about all the parallels and variations in Heritage.

End of the day, Heritage, FFA, Chrome stuff, whatever you lean to is all good. No need to crown a consensus best card.

Completely, agree. I have 7 different brand of Judge autos and my favorite changes by the day, except for 17 Archives Rookie Star, cant seem to get into that one for some reason.

There is no pedigree to Archives

Of all the "costly" Archives releases, they are all SSPd, with no parallels
I'd disagree with this statement... yes Heritage probably has a larger pool of collector's but Archives has been my favorite product since I resumed collecting in 2012 as an adult, and the autos in it have established a strong niche in the hobby.

There's an air of mystery to them IMO, as the base autos are never numbered (and only in the last couple of years have they even had numbered parallels other than the original rainbow foil /10's from the early 00's), and Topps would only announce print runs on a limited basis.

The first TAA's from 2001/02, where the '01 autos of all-time legends are all SP /50, routinely go for over 1K (when and if they do show up). Then the /50, /40, /10 and less print runs of the original FFA's of 2003-2005, all way to the current Archives era SP's of Aaron & Koufax, and RC's of Bryant and Harper, FFA's have their own personality, and own subset of collectors such as myself.

I think having the Judge added to the legend of the Bryant and Harper, even if parallel'ed to death and not as SSSP as them, makes it one of the go to RC autos for Judge. I was regretting spending $200+ a few weeks ago on it, but now it's already PSA 9'ed and sitting on the second shelf of my display case next to my other SP's Yankee FFA's and it fits in perfectly, and I hope for many more years to come.

Absolutely! And don't get me wrong, the Heritages are gorgeous, classic cards as well... although I don't collect them in general, I do have a couple of ROA's, and they're great. I missed out on the Judge ROA boat, but I did pick up the Action SP just to have the "same" card as the ROA, and think it has a lot of room to grow as the ROA's and FFA's become truly out of reach for smaller ballers such as myself! (Kinda like how I'll never have 2009 Trout BC, so I "settled" for a more obtainable 2010 Bowman Platinum auto instead.)
