I think just the opposite! The guy fighting to be in the line up with a dislocated shoulder and in pain shows just what type of player he is. Did the best he could and did not take a game off. Was there to support his teammates the best he could. While not a legendary performance...still admirable for him to just be in the line up.

Congrats to Ohtani collectors. Wish I still had my Ohtanis but it’s part of the hobby selling off cards when you can make back more than what you paid for. Also thanks to Freddie Freeman because without him two of the biggest hobby names wouldn’t have rings without his playoff legacy.

I can't wait for the next chapter of this ride next year when Ohtani is both pitching and hitting again. But I have no idea what that is going to look like. I assume he will have command issues coming off his 2nd tommy john and overall expect him to be an above average pitcher his first year back (but not pitching at an all star level). On the hitting end I expect some regression with way lower stolen bases (especially after dislocating his shoulder). Probably something like .280 avg, 40 HR, 20 SB. And of course winning another MVP (assuming good health).

My collecting plans have not changed this off season. Would like to pick up a few SSP cards that are in the high end price range, and then stick to my usual finding under valued SP, SSP and numbered RC cards. Should be a fun off season.

What about everyone else on here?
The one lesson I learned as an Ohtani collector this season? Never underestimate this man again. I sold a lot of Ohtani cards in the Spring and several more later in the season that I would not have if I had just believed in the unicorn.

Won't happen again unless I'm putting that money into other Ohtani cards.

Glad I pre-ordered some of those 50/50 boxes.... probably won't even open them, but it is tempting....

Stats and rings affect card prices. Supporting your teammates and trying your hardest do not.

His stuff stays neutral. Rings, which I’ve been told have no value in baseball anyways, play a small role in determining ohtani card prices. His cards rely primarily on his unicorn stats and health.

You maybe right. But I expect the floor on his low end base cards to be raised. I also expect his cards to take off during spring training when he shows he is healthy and pitching again. This might be the last off season to pick up RC at reasonable prices. If he hits and pitches well next season and wins another MVP his card will shoot to the moon!

The investor entity has already infiltrated the Ohtani market - much of this has already been priced in and pumped.

Tread carefully.

Agree. There's simply too much of the low end stuff for it to ever go to the moon.

Mid and High end should see a nice bump depending on brand and pedigree.

Or, we could just collect, and stop fixating on prices like options traders.

A lot of Ohtani's rookie year stuff I'd want has gotten a bit more expensive than I want to pay right now so I started my "Ohtani and Friends" collection. Those cards are cheaper and super fun

Yes sir and be sure to post them when they come in.

I'll try not to post my 2024 A&G when it comes .

I agree on the low end RC base and insert cards. They are never going to reach Mike Trout status. But at the same time I don't see raw selling for sub $10 ever again either. But I do think there will be a higher floor on these cards this off season. My guess is #700 raw will sit around $25 in the off season and jump during spring training.

Anybody buying Sho now? Or are we risking it for a few months into the off season?

You always buy Sho. Always

There is this false narrative that exists that when a player wins a championship, prices go up.

100% false

Some things do go up, mainly high end, but the rush from sellers to list and cash in overweighs most increases in demand (mid tier and lower tier) so I find that I get great quality cards that finally come to market at roughly the same price I would have paid 1-2-3 months earlier. Lots of snipes set

I'd wait for the WS hype to die down a bit personally. I think I'm going to wait until next year to buy back in. There's a lot more uncertainty for him next season and the hill is going to be a lot harder to climb and easier to fall.

I agree. Already seeing some high-ish end cards go for 15-20% less than late September/early October. Many people have simply moved on from baseball for the year and are taking their money to the next hyped player. All is well in the hobby.
