As you mentioned, that was before rookie scales. So back then a rookie's contract could ruin your salary cap if he was a bust. Jamarcus got something like $10 million per year back when the salary cap was $109 million.

Those days are over. This year's #1 pick will get about $10 million a year with a $280 million salary cap. It just doesn't ruin you the way it used to.

If anyone doesn’t think he is, you can make a lot of money on the sports books right now. Ward first is -20000
To be fair. Those odds are Cam going #1. Not necessarily to the Titans like FCG guaranteed.

You cant rule out a desperate New York team trading up for him. Or even a Browns swap to move up one and not have to give up the house.

Busts setting a franchise back ended with Sam Bradford

Now you can swing away. If you miss? Swing again

Does it hurt? Well sure... you never want to miss... but you'll be fine

The Josh Rosen and Kyler Murray scenario is going to happen more and more. Maybe not in back to back years but where a team takes multiple 1st or 2nd round QB's over a span of 5-7 years if they know they didn't get what they needed

Hell I'm an advocate of taking a QB every year in round 1 or 2 until you hit. Just keep trying

A little bit hyperbolic but you get my point

Missing on picks no longer "cripples" a franchise. Just take another QB next time

It will be the Titans, I am pretty sure both sides already have come to an understanding. Hope they can get a stud WR. Love to see Restrepo on day 2-3 rejoin Cam

I think the article makes it very clear.

"Quarterback Jaxson Dart has apparently changed his mind and will not be in Green Bay for the 2025 NFL draft."

He changed his mind. Therefore, he was not invited...

It's a 99% that he goes #1, everyone knows this. It was a fairly sure thing months ago. It's not any kind of genius call. That is why the odds are what they are.

All I have said is that there are surer things in this draft.
There are other talented non-QB players... but most of them don't have positions drafted that highly (RB, TE, interior DL, etc).
Ward will likely be top pick via Titans or trade, but it's not an absolute lock for 2025. He's more top pick by default.
It's not impossible to have a surprise this year (it would be impossible in a year like Andrew Luck or Joe Burrow or even TLaw).

...so yeah, Ward is king of QBs this 2025 year, but it's a weak year for QBs (fair draft talent year overall). He's the smartest kid on the short bus.
He surely wouldn't have been top drafted QB last year - and probably wouldn't be next year. He would've been a mid rounder in 2024 class.

I need a Slyguy spin like he did on Sanders

Don’t deprive me of that

Dart declined to attend for whatever reason he picked.
The invited players are felt likely to be taken round 1... not guaranteed. We see it every year. He was invited (Sanders wasn't).

Jaxon is unlikely to be a first round pick imo. He was considered a mid round pick until recently. He's fringe now.
Maybe he also just wanted to chill with fam. Who knows.

...I said it awhile ago, but it's entirely possible Ward will be the only round 1 QB this year.
None of them are very good. None are your typical high calibur talents from big football schools / conferences.
If teams want to reach or start a QB run (and/or trade up), then Dart, Milroe, Sanders, or even one of the other could go high. Possibly even all of them. It only takes one NFL team.

Can we get some Abdul Carter to the Browns discord going... I need the universe to make that pick happen so Hunter can be a Giant.

Not that Carter is bad, but it's not as helpful to our team

Nope

Hunter is going to Cleveland

So you can debate Carter vs. The World

It won’t be Hunter

Does anyone have any concern about Abdul Carter’s injury? Or is it a nothing burger with the stress/foot thing

I know Hunter is going to Cleveland. I'm trying to will it into existence that they take Carter. Lol, I just really want to see Hunter in NY not Carter.

Both are the clear best players in the draft, Hunter just better fit our team's current roster and needs. Now if we take Carter and flip Kayvon, I'd be a little sad, but more picks would make me happy

Rain chances have moved up to 50% on Thursday during the day and 60% at night. 25% chance on Friday and Saturday.

They would have the most savage of a pass rushing duo if he did go to Cleveland

@AdamSchefter

Now that the NFL draft is four days away, this is the closest to the start of it that there have been no trades for first-round picks in the Common Draft Era, per ESPN’s
@EpKap

The Joe Montana trade in 1993 came five days before the draft; this year now has surpassed that.

Most of the later first round trades are in-draft... usually on the clock.

(yes, top picks are usually traded at least a day before the draft.... Chi/Caro BYoung, Tenn/LAR Goff, etc)

The draft this year is pretty hard to predict as there are standout guys at many positions, but no real good QBs. It's basically a game of whether any given team values OT or DE or TE or CB or etc, and few of them know that until picks start. Guys like Jeanty or Tet McMillan or Ty Warren or Graham or Campbell or even Hunter could go top 3 or top 5... or they could be around at #10 pick and beyond.

...I'd fully expect teams like Minn, Atl, Wash and others with few picks in 2025 to likely trade down for more picks while they're on the clock or just before, though. Unless there's a guy they really want available, makes sense to get more picks.

WTF are you even talking about? Do you read the posts you quote?

No one said Cam wasn't going first. All I said, is it wasn't guaranteed he went 1st to the Titans. As there is a legit chance Tennessee trades back. And the Browns/Giants/Jets or someone jumps to 1 to snag him.

Browns hold #33.

#33 has been traded in each of the last THREE @NFL Drafts.

2022: Jaguars traded up from
#33 to #27 for Devin Lloyd

2023: Titans traded up from #41 to #33 for Will Levis

2024: Panthers traded up from #33 to #32 for Xavier Legette
