Not necessarily Russian bots, but American bois for certain, although they are pretty much the same thing at this point. Maybe you missed it, but it was revealed that numerous USA-based "influencers" took Russian money last year to deliver Kremlin-written scripts on their podcasts.

Popcornmeter for "Snow White" at Rotten Tomatoes is holding steady at 74%, which is a far more accurate reflection of the quality of it than anything the trollsphere is currently vomiting up.

I haven't seen the animated "Lilo & Stitch", but for what it's worth, the few kids that were in attendance when we saw "Snow White" on Monday cheered when the trailer for the live-action was shown.

Honestly I think all reviews and ratings are compromised at this point. I'm just providing data but I agree that people should still watch what they want and make their own decisions. Taste is subjective. Trust no one. Even verified professional critics on RT get benefits from studios that they don't want to screw up which is why most of the pre release reviews were positive.

My daughter has no interest in seeing this so I won't be seeing it. But I still haven't seen many good Disney movies in the past 5 years. Mufasa was terrible. Little Mermaid remake was terrible. Jungle Cruise was terrible. Cruella was terrible. Raya was terrible. Mulan was terrible. Maleficient was terrible. Lion King remake was terrible. I definitely didn't like the Aladdin remake as much as you, I'd call it average. Dumbo was terrible. I thought Encanto was pretty good. But the recent track record doesn't make me want to watch much of what they have been doing.

Pixar has been better. I haven't seen Elemental or Lightyear but I've seen the rest of the stuff they've done in the past 5 years and enjoyed them.

Star Wars has been awful as a life long fan. I enjoyed Skeleton Crew but that's about it. I haven't watched Andor yet but maybe I'll give that shot.

The only Marvel I've watched in the past five years is the Daredevil Born Again series which has been mostly good.

Lilo and Stitch is a classic. Directed by Chris Sanders who did Wild Robot, How to Train Your Dragon and The Croods.

The remake is directed by the guy that did Marcel the Shell with Shoes On so hopefully it will be good but directors don't matter much in modern Disney because there is too much meddling from executives even with big name directors. Mufasa was directed by Barry Jenkins who made Moonlight and it still was terrible.

There was also a trailer for the live-action remake of "How To Train Your Dragon" before "Snow White". I haven't seen the original of that, either, so I can't speak to how it looked compared to the animated version. The trailer for "Minecraft" was also shown. It was a little strange seeing so many G & PG trailers that day since most of the movies we go to are rated R, or at least PG-13.

A24 has a new one this Friday called "Death of a Unicorn", described as a horror comedy. Members of the A24 online club get a free ticket to all of their movies on opening weekend, so I'll probably go check it out. It stars Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Will Poulter, and Anthony Carrigan (best known as NoHo Hank on "Barry"). The director's previous movie "Resurrection" (2022) was pretty good.

Any news of a movie called "Death of a Sasquatch"?

Go see it, and decide for yourself.
Surely there's at least one theater near you that wouldn't violate the restraining order.

The Woman in the Yard certainly has people talking. I watched a spoiler review on YouTube since I didn’t have any interest in a PG-13 Blumhouse movie and DAMN!!! Most say it is pro-suicide as the mother kills herself once she realizes her kids will be fine without her and the “happy” ending isn’t happening in reality as “Ramona” is spelled backwards on the painting which was alluded to earlier in the film.

What are your thoughts jdandns?

On May 22nd and 24th, Harkins (a theater chain in California & Arizona) are running a preview reel of upcoming movies including stuff like you'd see at Comic-Con or SXSW. It's 72 minutes long, whatever it is. Admission is $3, but you get a free small popcorn and $3 in rewards bucks, so it's actually free with salty treat included.

They're clearly trying to drum up some interest from actual theatergoers, to get that big opening weekend everything kind of hinges on these days. There are likely other regional chains having the event throughout the country. Check into it. Get a taste of the coming wonder Hollywood has in store!

Any of these any good? I see them on stream.

Kraken
Den of Thieves 2
Trap
Electric State

I watched To Catch a Killer and I’m not getting that wasted time back.

Trap was OK for most of it, but the killer gets away at the end using a bicycle spoke to escape the police handcuffs.

Waitaminute. Is this the "spoiler" thread?
No?
Oops.

Trap is pretty good. I just saw A Working Man. a bit more serious than The Beekeeper without many puns in it. plenty of action to go around.

I saw a preview for Ebay: The Movie. It has Jacob Elordi as a struggling eBay seller who has to pay for medical treatment for his dying father by selling a grand piano for $15K. He has to go from PA to FL to deliver it. He meets Jessica played by Rachel Zeigler at a college bar in GA where they discuss who is better Jayden Daniels or Joe Burrow? Can he find the meaning of life and love on the way??

I saw that, too.
It looks good but there are whisperings that AI was used to fine-tune Elordi's eastern Pennsylvania accent.

Thankfully I have a much better taste in films than you do and didn’t plan on seeing this garbage.

They used AI to fix Brody's dialogue in the Brutalist and he won best actor

The Electric State is one of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. $330 million spent on a lot of big names who mailed it in.

Dang Kevin Costner could’ve really used that in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

Sean Connery who had previously played Robin Hood shows up at the end as King Richard.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Prince of Thieves but Costner's accent it terrible. Some people just shouldn't do it.
