Posted in the Project 2020 thread under "Topps Now" section too, but I got the Ichiro AP in the mail today.
$99.99 price tag for just the silver frame and hand numbering on back certainly isn't justifiable, but I needed to get this card and glad I was able to do so directly on Topps.com instead of paying triple/quadruple the price in the secondary market.

I agree with OKU, there is no justification for people to desire the /20's other than we have been programmed into a scarcity mindset by Topps. Forget the silver or gold frame, the entire card is in a "frame" of the one touch.

People are quick to bash the absurdity of art, but here we are complaining because robots beat us to the privilege of paying 5x more for the same thing we could get in unlimited quantity.

And the art is pretty darn cool. Except for oldmanalan who is completely off the reservation with that Gwynn.

Every artist is painting from the same reference cards. So the Jackie cards should all look *kind of* similar.

So I just started following this thread and found the checklist with photos online. Some of the first round cards looking amazing, some not. Of course different opinions with everyone.

I do see the first several cards carrying large premiums in the secondary market. I am not too familiar with the art or sketch scene these days but I remember several years ago there were Star Wars sketch artists that always carried huge premiums. Are any of these 20 artists very well known in the sketch community and generally carry premiums?

What players do you all feel will hold investment value? Of course will buy a couple for my personal collection but the 5x premiums I see on the Ichiro already intrigues me.

The 1987 Topps McGwire RC is the card that got me into collecting during my childhood. To me, this Topps Project 2020 McGwire looks horrible.

I should of submitted the drawing I quickly made for my son (for home school art class) not too long ago.. lol.

Are you saying your art is better than the Project 2020 McGwire art?

I really like efdot's work on his McGwire but yours shows promise, keep up the work and maybe you can get into Project 3030?

I like the project, my initial reaction to the one card I mostly care about, the Mattingly, was to the reject it, but I'm beginning to like it now.

I do wish Topps gave the artists permission to create something that reminds us of the original with more freedom.

Huh? More freedom but reminds us of the original? How much more freedom do you want after seeing the Mattingly? I’m not sure more freedom and familiarity can be used together.

I've said this in the thread before, but people's preference to art is subjective, so it is okay to have different opinions.

But I think the problem is that so many people in here have such narrow view of what a remake of card should be.
The concept of this set is for each artist to re-create/re-imagine the iconic rookie cards, and not draw identical sketch of the original card or create "true to original" artwork of the cards.

I'm not gonna say that all the cards that have come out in the set so far are absolute master works, but Topps is pretty much staying true to its concept of the set, and I'm excited to see the 2 cards that come out each day.

The Henderson is sick. I actually own a couple of Matt's artwork pieces of Back To The Future posters. The Henderson is exactly what I would expect. I cant wait for his others.
