I haven't yet read anyone insisting the citizens at large should own the means production so not sure about the whole socialism thing Or is calling everything socialist just this year's version of snowflake? Whatever gets ya riled up to attack the 'thems'

Simple answer is you won't until the manufacturers crank up production to a point that exceeds demand. I don't even know if the manufacturers have the production capacity to do that right now. Once production exceeds demand, then you can get all the megaboxes you want - maybe even at a discount.

OP here. There is not one sense of entitlement to believe that going to my retail store I should be able to buy a box or pack of the new product. I buy everything but hockey. I've even bought the new Fortnite cards just for the fun of ripping them. I happen to be at Wal Mart the day the vendor was restocking the shelf because my daughter forgot to tell us she needed something for school that morning. I spoke with him about how quickly things disappear. He said he sees a lot of the same people that buy the stuff as soon as he puts it on the shelf. I said "Really? That explains why I see the containers of products that are empty all the time." He said he had something new and handed me two boxes of Optic Basketball. He asked if I wanted more of them and I said "No. I just like to open them, two is fine for me." I open anything and everything including the crappy boxes that have the mystery graded card. It's fun. But when something new does come out, it's nice to have a place to buy a pack or box of it.

To the one guy who said calling people Turds at the beginning loses my audience, you're probably right. But by the comments and length of this thread, it's a 50/50 split on opinion and there were enough who weren't turned off that weighed in.

As for the claim I'm only looking for high end to get those hits, when I decide to do that, I don't buy from WalMart or Target. That's when I order online from a hobby shop. When I complain about retail it's because I like the chase of finding a nice card that didn't cost me a good chunk of my paycheck. I don't need it to be a Pete Alonso auto or Zion refractor. Just nice cards.

I hope everyone gets what they want for sure, but let's be honest. Buying up everything in retail and then selling it for 3x the prices is pretty sh itty. I'm not hating, I'm complaining. Which I'm allowed to do just as you're allowed to buy them all as some kindly keep yelling "Capitalism!" across the posts. Good for you. It just means I have to work harder to get a box or two and if that's what I have to do then fine. I'm still going to call out those who are greedy in their quest to "retire early." haha What a joke.

While I am not saying it's right, I don't think it's wrong.

1) I have no doubts there is plenty of sealed product at any retail store from all sports and years. I know all the ones I've ever seen has them. Maybe not a specific, new hot one. But most stores have a lot to offer and will restock many times.

2) This isn't always the case regarding new card releases. How do card companies and retailers feel when they have product sitting on valuable shelf space for months, even a year due to it not selling?...not everything is hot, so when something is, they are thrilled it is moving.

3) Anyone who can afford to buy THE HOT PRODUCTS what they find on the shelf would. Otherwise it's like leaving free money on the shelves, and if you don't, the next person will.

I agree it stinks, but it's that way with most 'hot' collectibles.
Look at shoes, funko pops, art, hot wheels, legos, limited edition vinyl or bluray steel books on and on.

I collect Disney stuff and there are items that sell out in minutes often due to it being popular. I have to find it at ebay for 3-4-5x the price it was an hour ago in stores/online.
It happens all the time in many collectible categories.

Then the question for me becomes: do I really need this or will something else work, or maybe I should just save my money and move on?

So you’re a hero for only taking two boxes when your initial gripe was that you need this to make some side cash? Pick a lane to complain.

It's simple. You're chasing Zion or Ja.

Instead of driving all over God's Green Earth, for a product you know won't be on the shelf, just work with your LCS or be patient and spend the money on the cards you actually want at the prices you're willing to pay. Leave the scalpers stuck with their unopened product--you might as well buy scratcher tickets

Or, you can get the complete Optic set for $120 right now and you get everything, plus a bonus pack of Green Waves. If these cards will truly hold their value, you're already ahead of the game, since you get ALL the rookies and superstars.

I worked out a deal for Velocities of Lebron, Giannis, Anthony Davis and Kendrick Nunn, privately, and it cost me a little over $40.

Grabbed 3 complete sets and I'm calling it good. Saved me a lot of headaches and unneeded stress and I kept the scalpers at bay

Ah, the kindler, gentler OP now that he got what he wanted. Which, by the way, was not baseball cards to open with your son (which are ALWAYS available), but the hot basketball product.

I bought out the Optic basketball at my Walmart on Friday. Nearly $600 worth. I hit 0 Zion base and 0 Morant anything. Did get a Zion blue velocity, two Zion inserts, and a Kendrick Nunn Signature Series. I'll gladly take the $600ish from anyone that's kvetching in this thread. I await your responses for you to put your money where your mouth is.

Correct, there was probably someone who was very upset to see an empty display on Friday--and there are plenty of posts kvetching about people clearing out displays. Well, they can have what I got for what I paid. Just because it was a "bad break" shouldn't influence their request for MSRP product. It's still MSRP!
