The velocity was down from what I've seen but first start, strange season, that's not a big deal.

Not having command and being unable to throw a strike (then unable to put Canha away) ... that was it. The ole' INF ERA; perhaps Andriese can keep the 6th off the board.

Shohei charged with 5 runs... this was sad... the lack of control was not fun to watch

The last hit seemed bit unlucky, but Grossman hit that ball well.
Hopefully Ohtani can get adjusted quick enough into the season.

No velocity, no command. And after being pulled and sent to the dugout he appeared to be rubbing his arm as if something was bothering him. I guess we'll see what Maddon says after the game.

Buzz Lightyear knows what Ohtani’s ERA is this season.

with the Angels doing a 6 man rotation and 60 games in a season, that gives Ohtani 10 games to start. so he's basically pitched 10% for the season already, even if it was 1 inning without getting any outs.

Damn, that was rough. Does he even need to rest tomorrow? He's gonna be sitting a while today.

It might just have to be an adjustment year for him, the whole season.
I'm sure the Angels have the dilemma, possibly wanting him to concentrate on hitting for the year, but they also understand he needs game time pitching too if he is going to continue pitching in the future with the team.

the team got him to be a pitcher and a batter... i say they throw him out there every Sunday... i still remember going to his 1st start at Angels' stadium and he took a no hitter into the 7th inning.... this was a completely different pitcher today than the one we saw in 2018

Yeah I hope they stick with the plan.
The team and fans would have to bear with his struggles coming off of TJ and knee surgery.

Knowing Arte he probably got some 2nd year Ortho resident to do Ohtanis surgery cheap.

He looks terrible, even in spring and summer.

Ugly performance. I believe he can turn it around, but I'm a fan of his, so I guess I would. Best of luck to Shohei as he continues to rehab. Damn.

It's just one bad start, his first in three years [?] - anticipating him to be lights out would be silly, even though I was expecting something like it.

ERA per ESPN = INF. I guess that means infinity lmao! At least he can play DH 2-3 games per week.

he should be able to be the DH 4x a week. Because he pitched so little today, 30 pitches, the Angels announcers were saying he may DH tomorrow since he really doesn't need a day off for 30 pitches thrown

Definitely was not a great showing. Think we may need to be patient with them and allow him to find his control. I think it was very telling that he did not use the splitter despite needing it so badly a number of times. Just not there yet.

I am buying if you're selling. Feel free to dump all his Bowman 1st autos to me before they're worthless!

Reports are that Ohtani threw 0 split-finger fastballs in 30 pitches. That's troubling.
